...........
While I expressed after the Lions released Michael Badgley before the start of Training Camp that I thought he could easily be back with the Lions at some point in the future, I'm a little surprised that the Lions chose to sign Badgley to the Practice Squad, compared to John Parker Romo. The latter appears to have much more upside potential as a Kicker. If this was the 2021 or 2022 season, when the Lions brass expectations for the team were much more modest, I think the 2023 season version of JPR would have been the Lions Practice Squad choice at Kicker. Having said this, it wouldn't surprise me if John Parker Romo is signed to the Lions Practice Squad at some point this season (if available).

Lions sign Dylan Drummond to practice squad
...........
Very good Lions news!
The Lions are fortunate that another team didn't claim Dylan Drummond off of waivers.
Drummond seems like a great fit for the Lions on and off the field. Over the course of the long season, with injuries the norm in the NFL, it wouldn't be surprising if the Lions sign Drummond from the Practice Squad.
It's also a very realistic possibility that one or more Lions players on the Practice Squad will receive an offer to sign with another team. If that happens, it remains to be seen if the Lions attempt to satisfy the respective player, either offering him a contract on the 53 man roster or a higher valued Practice Squad contract. Dylan Drummond, Connor Galvin, and Chase Lucas are Lions Practice Squad players I believe one or more other NFL teams have on their radar screen.

Detroit Lions sign 10 to practice squad, including return of kicker Michael Badgley
............
LB Trevor Nowaske, G Kayode Awosika, and S Brandon Joseph are players at their respective positions I viewed as Practice Squad priorities for the Lions. This, in addition to WR Dylan Drummond, T Connor Galvin, and Chase Lucas (especially after CB Starling Thomas V was claimed off waivers by the Cardinals). Good job by the Lions team brass in signing each of them to the team's Practice Squad.
Maurice Alexander being back on the Lions Practice Squad is welcome news.
Though Chris Smith is a good Practice Squad addition, as he has versatility on the Defensive Line, and has familiarity with the Lions Defensive System and personnel, I'm disappointed that at least at present, Cory Durden isn't on the Lions Practice Squad. Because of the Lions quality depth in the interior of the Defensive Line, it wouldn't surprise me if Durden decides to sign a Practice Squad contract with another team.

Detroit Lions Sign 10 Players to Practice Squad
..........
One thing that's attention getting regarding the players the Lions signed to the Practice Squad on Wednesday is QB Adrian Martinez isn't included. Being that it's highly unlikely another NFL team will offer him a Practice Squad in the foreseeable future, the fact that Martinez wasn't included on the list of players signed to the Lions P.S. on Wednesday indicates to me that at the very least, the Lions are seriously considering signing a different QB to the Practice Squad.
With 6 Practice Squad openings, I believe that the Lions will sign a QB, another RB (even factoring in Zonovan Knight headed towards the Lions P.S. and Craig Reynolds likely being re-signed- to the 53 man roster), a TE, a Center, and at least one more DB. With the remaining Practice Squad spot, I think it will come down to another WR or another Defensive Lineman.

Lions announce roster moves
.........
This thread relates to the following thread:
Lions re-sign RB Craig Reynolds; DE/Edge Julian Okwara to IR
detroit-lions-forum.proboards.com/thread/1878/lions-craig-reynolds-julian-okwara
DT Quinton Bohanna and G Michael Niese are the two additional players the Lions signed to the Practice Squad.
Right now, the Lions have 16 players on the Practice Squad, including T Max Pircher, an International Player, who isn't included in the 16 Practice Squad Maximum.
With the final Practice Squad spot, the Lions will probably add either a Center (I'm not aware of Michael Niese having Center experience or a TE.
If Ifeatu Melifonwu is put on In-Season/ Short Term IR, TE Darrell Daniels would be a prime candidate to be re-signed to the 53 man roster. The Lions might wait until after the opener at Kansas City to re-sign Daniels, hence his entire base salary for the 2023 season wouldn't be guaranteed. Only 3 weeks of his salary would be guaranteed at that time. Daniels could also be a Practice Squad addition, as early as today.

Briefly ............
The Lions finalized their practice squad Friday, re-signing tight end Darrell Daniels. He joined the team in early August after spending part of last season with the Indianapolis Colts.
This is definitely welcome news. At the very least, I'm anticipating Darrell Daniels playing in multiple regular season games for the Lions this season. I think there's a very realistic chance Daniels will be re-signed to the Lions regular roster sometime during the season, after the opener in Kansas City.

............
This is likely why the Lions signed Michael Niese to the Practice Squad.
