WR Austin Watkins, C Cameron Tom, QB Bailey Zappe, and T-G Logan Bruss would be additions at positions the Lions could use another option on the 53 man roster more so than the players mentioned in the article at other positions.

I'm including recently released players in this thread not subject to the Waiver Claims process.

Matthew Wright did make it to Lions Training Camp in 2021. But his struggles early on, including at the Ford Field Intra-Squad simulation game practice, led to the Lions moving on from him days before the pre-season opener that summer. To Wright's credit, he became the Jaguars Kicker that season, and made a long Game Winning FG for the Jaguars, against the Dolphins, for their 1st win in the very short Urban Meyer era. Marvin Jones was on the winning sideline.

I think it's better for both the Lions and Matthew Wright not to bring him back to the team. I'm sure it took a lot of work, both physically and mentally, for Wright to get back on track after his struggles with the Lions.

In the article, Mike Payton mentioned RB Zonovan 'Bam' Knight, who the Jets released when getting down to 53 players, as a Waiver Claim option for the Lions.


As it turned out, Bam Knight cleared waivers. The Lions and Knight agreed on a Practice Squad contract. More planned regarding Knight joining the Lions Practice Squad in the following thread:
