Lions release DT Christian Covington ahead of roster cutdown deadline
Lions make more cuts in advance of the roster deadline
Lions latest wave of roster cuts includes several offensive linemen

This thread relates to the following threads:
Lions projected 53 man roster ( 2023 season )

Lions 26, Panthers 17: Pre-Season Game # 3 (2023)

None of the transactions are surprising.
I still believe that there's a very realistic chance that Germaine Ifedi will be re-signed by the Lions later this week, sometime after the Lions initial 53 man roster is set, or after Game 1 (at Kansas City) when as a Vested Veteran, Ifedi's base salary for the entire season wouldn't be guaranteed. It's realistically possible that another team will attempt to sign Ifedi this week, before or after their roster is set at 53. If this doesn't happen and the Lions aren't planning on signing him to the 53 man roster anytime soon, Ifedi would probably be a priority Practice Squad candidate for the Lions.
Bobby Hart also could be re-signed to the Lions 53 man roster later this week or soon after Game # 1. But it's less likely this will occur. There's a substantially greater chance Hart would be a Lions Practice Squad candidate if he doesn't latch on to any other roster.
Christian Covington might end up on the Lions Practice Squad if he doesn't sign with another team. So much also depends on who else the Lions let go on the Defensive Line.
Devine Ozigbo probably won't get a contract offer on another NFL 53 man roster in the near future. If this turns out to be the case, I think Ozigbo will be at or near the top of the Lions RB Practice Squad candidates.
The only Waived player by the Lions from Sunday that I think has more than a remote chance of being claimed off Waivers is Trinity Benson. If Benson is claimed, his former team, the Broncos are the most likely team to claim him.
Alex Mollette is probably the player the Lions Waived on Sunday that I think makes the most sense by the Lions to sign to the Practice Squad. Mollette looks like a better option (relatively speaking) than Brad Cecil, at least for this season. Cecil struggled for the 2nd straight game. To have any chance at succeeding in the NFL as a player, Cecil is going to need a full off-season in an NFL Strength and Conditioning program. He currently can't handle power at the NFL level.
