The Lions decision to release Darnell Daniels isn't surprising. Having said that, Daniels was the Lions best run blocking TE during the pre-season. And it looked like he did a good job on Special Teams. Daniels went from a pretty likely cut to someone who I believe has a very realistic chance of being re-signed later this week or in the days following the season opener at Kansas City.
Because Daniels isn't a vested veteran, he's not subject to the waiver claim process. If Daniels doesn't get a contract offer from another team and the Lions don't plan on re-signing him this week, he would highly likely be a Practice Squad Priority.
