I'm posting this article in this thread because Jared Goff was used as a comparison. Keeping in mind that it was the LA Rams that gave Jared Goff the contract that the Lions took as part of the trade the two teams made this past winter.

Bill Belichick is proving again this season that he's an elite NFL HC. iMHO, Belichick is still the best NFL HC in the first 20 + years of the new century. With the exception of the top 3 QBs in the NFL (Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes, and Aaron Rodgers), Belichick has more current value than any player to their respective team.

Jared Goff got off to a bad start, as he took a sack on the Lions first play from scrimmage on what was a coverage sack. It looked like Goff had the opportunity to get rid of the ball and avoid an Intentional Grounding Penalty, even though he was in the pocket.

Early on the next drive, Goff came close to throwing an interception. LB Isiah Simmons got his hands on the ball but didn't secure it.

After that, Goff played as well as he has all season. Goff seemed more poised than he was at times this season. Goff's toughness, combined with his poise, and decision making, were certainly a huge part of why the Lions won the game by a sizable margin.

A strong case can be made that Jared Goff deserves to win the weekly award for his performance over the Cardinals. The magnitude of the Lions upset win was much greater and more unlikely than the Chiefs and Packers securing wins that were much closer games. When the dust settles though, I'll be pleasantly surprised if Goff wins the award over both Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers.

If Jared Goff practices today (Thursday), I think it's likely that he will start in the season finale vs. the Packers.

I think Jared Goff's season grade should be in the C+ to C range. Goff's improvement in this last 4 games especially, offers hope that at the very least, Goff is a viable option for the 2022 season. The Lions can afford to wait until at least until 2023 to determine whether a long term starter prospect needs to be added to the roster.
