Jared Goff “hopeful” trade is “so good for my career”
........
One thing in particular is that should benefit Jared Goff ( and the Lions ) is he got clarity in late January that he's no longer with the Rams. As a player with the Lions, Goff will receive the team's new playbook the first day its issued to the Lions players. He won't be in catch up mode to learn the new Offense and getting to know his new teammates (and Coaches).

It seems obvious but Goff's success will depend on the Lions ground game. Goff needs a solid run game to perform, not the other way around. BTW, I'm not sure Dan Campbell already has a playbook ready for Goff ?

Agreed.
Even before the Lions acquired Jared Goff, it was apparent ( once Anthony Lynn was hired as Lions Offensive Coordinator ) the intention was for Lions running game to be the driving force of the Offense.
I'm highly confident that the Lions playbook is a work in progress and it won't be ready to be given to any of the Lions players for at least several weeks. Once the playbook is ready though, Jared Goff won't be in catch-up mode.

The Jared Goff, Carson Wentz contracts become a cautionary tale
......
Regarding the Lions, two thoughts came to mind when reading this article:
1. Brad Holmes saw an opportunity and capitalized on it.
2. Even assuming Jared Goff isn't worth the contract the LA Rams gave him, the Lions brass believes that Goff is a better QB than the consensus opinion that's being voiced in the first two months of the off-season.

What would a Jared Goff contract restructure look like and mean for the Lions?
.....
Unless someone can convince me that saving $20 million in a contract restructure w/o lowering guaranteed money would not result in the Lions being charged $20 million in combined future seasons Salary Cap costs, I'm skeptical of a restructure being in the best interest of the Lions that affects Salary Cap 2023 and beyond numbers.

Sean McVay: We have to do a better job of creating explosive plays
.......
Good job by Sean McVay for publicly taking some responsibility for the declining play of the LA Rams Offense.
It's best for both Sean McVay and Jared Goff that they are going in a different direction. McVay clearly believes that Matthew Stafford fits better from what McVay wants from the Rams Offense. Goff has the opportunity to play for a Lions brass that values him noticeably more than the current perception of Goff as an NFL QB.

Michael Brockers: Detroit is getting a tough individual in Jared Goff
.......
If the current NFL playoff system ( 7 playoff teams per conference ) was in place in the 2019 season and the regular season turned out the way it did under the 6 playoff teams per conference system, the LA Rams would have qualified for the playoffs in all 4 of Jared Goff's seasons that he started most games.

Les Snead declines to talk about Jared Goff
......
It doesn't make sense for anyone associated with the LA Rams to disparage Jared Goff. When the Rams team brass is able to discuss the trade, their focus should be on what they expect Matthew Stafford to bring to the Rams.
