Stay or go: Predicting the fate of the Lions free agents in 2023
.........
This new thread relates to the following threads:
Lions 2023 Salary Cap situation

DJ Chark :Free Agent Info ( 2023 season )

Of the Lions 2023 UFAs mentioned in the article (and overall), DJ Chark is the one who will cost the Lions the most to retain. The Lions likely want to re-sign Chark but it's an uphill battle (though far from impossible) for the two sides to come to a new contract agreement that both would be comfortable with.
I think there's a good chance the Lions will come to a new contract agreement with Jaamal Williams. A potential obstacle is if Duce Staley / Panthers try to recruit Williams to come to Carolina, if Williams remains an UFA when the Official NFL Tampering Period begins.
I think there's a pretty good chance LB Alex Anzalone will end up re-signing with the Lions. Anzaleone probably won't get a contract offer from another team that would lead to him leaving the Lions. Dan Campbell and Aaron Glenn value Anzaleone, with the latter valuing being a leader and 3 down contributor on the Lions.
John Cominsky and Isaiah Buggs are players that both parties will try very hard to continue the football relationships. I believe both will end up re-signing with the Lions.
I think the Lions will re-sign either Will Harris or Mike Hughes, with a realistic chance of both being re-signed. I don't think either is going to get more than a modest contract offer from any team.
Regarding DeShon Elliott, so much depends on both contract offers elsewhere (assuming he's unsigned when the Official NFL Tampering Period begins) and what the Lions expect to get out of Tracy Walker in the 2023 season. Both, regarding health and whether the Lions brass believes Walker can handle a greater in the Box role? It's a close call with Elliott.
I'm anticipating Evan Brown will get a noticeably better offer from another team, compared to the Lions. If this happens, Brown will very likely will leave Detroit as an UFA.
Josh Woods is arguably the Lions best Special Teams player. I expect the Lions and Woods to agree to a new contract.
C.J. Moore is a valuable Special Teams player, with Defensive versatility. I think both the Lions and Moore will agree to a new contract. Moore let his agent know during last season that he clearly wanted to come back to the Lions. It was good to see Moore return in late October (Moore was signed off the Texans Practice Squad), after he was let go with an injury settlement as the Lions got down to 53 players.
