Panthers trade up to first overall pick, Bears get two firsts, two seconds, D.J. Moore
Ryan Poles found someone to go “above and beyond” in trade for No. 1 overall
Panthers’ trade up to No. 1 leaves Texans picking second quarterback
Panthers get word out that they could trade back from No. 1
Frank Reich: We have a little over a month to confirm which is the right QB for us
Bears still have NFL’s most salary cap space after adding D.J. Moore’s $20M cap hit
...............
Ironically, former Bears HC Lovie Smith, now former Texans HC as well, contributed greatly to the Bears securing Pick # 1 in the 2023 Draft. Hence, the trade they made with the Panthers for Pick # 1.
I think the Bears made a very good trade. D.J. Moore is a legit # 1 WR and he doesn't turn 26 until next month. Moore's salary cap numbers for 2024 and 2025 are team friendly for a WR of Moore's caliber.
If the Panthers remain in the Pick # 1 spot, chances are, they aren't going to end up getting the value from this trade that the Bears did. If there was an Andrew Luck or Trevor Lawrence caliber of QB prospect in this crop, then it would have been a trade that I think the Panthers should have made. None of the QBs in this crop appear to be even close to that level of QB prospect.
