Lions & WR Amon-Ra St. Brown agree to 4 yr contract ext.

Congratulations to Penei Sewell on the well-deserved lucrative contract extension the Lions gave him! Sewell was the first draft selection by Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell and he's been what they envisioned in 2021, when selecting Sewell! Maybe even more, when considering Sewell's excellent intangibles!
I expressed the following in the 'Penei Sewell quotes/ info: 2024 season' thread:
It's realistically possible for the Lions and Penei Sewell to come to a contract extension agreement in 2024. However, because the Lions have Sewell's NFL rights in 2025 (once the 5th Year option is exercised in the next few weeks), and that Jared Goff, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Alim McNeill are entering the final season of their contract with the Lions, it's more likely than not that the Lions and Sewell won't come to a contract extension agreement until next off-season. Sewell likely will end up with a record setting contract from the Lions, for an NFL Offensive Lineman.
Regarding the basic contract numbers that have been reported, Amon-Ra St. Brown received more total money (at least $120 million) than Penei Sewell but Sewell received more guaranteed money ($85 million to $ 77 million). Both Lions players are foundation players for the Lions, as their contract extensions reflect that.
With Jared Goff heading for an even bigger payday than Sewell and AMSR, it remains to be seen if the Lions will be able to retain Alim McNeill. Being next year, Aidan Hutchinson is eligible for a contract extension. The Lions are going to need to continue to be at or near the top of the NFL with the draft, as the salary cap will prevent the Lions from retaining good players. This was already the case with LG Jonah Jackson.
