I expressed the following the other day in the Lions Free Agency Preview and Results: ( 2024 ) thread:
All things considering, the Lions did very well in the 1st and 2nd Phase of the NFL Free Agency Period, including the FAs (and their contracts) the Lions re-signed.
The Cam Sutton situation, which led to his release, was a major setback though. This is even factoring in the Lions acquiring Carlton Davis from the Bucs in a trade, the signing of Raiders UFA Amik Robertson, and the re-signing of UFA Emmanuel Moseley. With the loss of Sutton, the Lions need at least one more CB who would be expected to make the 53 man roster.
When the dust settles, I believe the Lions will select a CB in the 2024 Draft and add at least one veteran CB who who be serious competition to at least survive the cutdown to 53.

Lions camp preview: Extreme makeover, cornerback edition
...........
The first 2 Lions draft selections were CBs (Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw).
The Lions appear to have enough good options at CB entering training camp. On paper, this is clearly the most improved position unit on the Lions roster.

Potential worries about the 2024 Detroit Lions: The safety spot
..........
I'm optimistic Kerby Joseph will have a much better season than he did last season, when dealing with the hip injury mentioned in the article.
Ifeatu Melifonwu is a question mark, in part because of the injury he's dealing with.
Brandon Joseph definitely needs more consistency, with tackling the # 1 concern with his game.
Loren Strickland seems to have good to very good playing instincts for a rookie. He was one of the most pleasant Lions surprises in the pre-season.
