Two Lions earn spots in the top 30 free agents after next season
..........
This new thread relates to the following thread:
Lions sign S C.J Gardner-Johnson (UFA-Eagles) -1 yr contract
detroit-lions-forum.proboards.com/thread/1722/lions-gardner-johnson-eagles-contract
It's more likely that the Lions will end up re-signing either Jonah Jackson or Chauncey 'C.J.' Garnder-Johnson than both players.
With the very high financial cost necessary to extend the contract of Penei Sewell in 2024 or 2025, the Lions could easily decide that it will be too costly to re-sign Jonah Jackson.
The cost of extending the contract of Jared Goff is also a major factor in the equation of whether the Lions end up re-signing Jackson and Gardner Johnson, one of them, or neither of them.

Detroit Lions unrestricted free agents now that the 2023 season is completed
Full list of the 2024 Detroit Lions free agents
...........
Jonah Jackson, Graham Glasgow, and Jalen-Reeves Maybin are the 3 Lions UFAs that I consider the highest priority to try to get re-signed.
C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Josh Reynolds, Emmanuel Moseley, Donovan Peoples-Jones, and Romeo Okwara are UFAs I hope the Lions re-sign but the price needs to make that much more sense.
My guess is none of the Lions RFAs are going to be tendered. Most or all of the 6 RFAs will probably sign contracts with the Lions this off-season that have less of a 2024 season Salary Cap number than the lowest RFA Tender amount.
Julian Okwara signed with the Eagles.
David Blough is now the Washington Assistant QB Coach.

PFF says Lions need to make a splash in free agency
..........
The added salary cap space each NFL will have with the NFL raising the 2024 NFL Salary Cap to over $ 255 million, will give the Lions more salary cap flexbility. Yet, with Alim McNeill also being a player the Lions need to extend, it remains to be seen how aggressive the Lions will be with Free Agency in 2024. Because of the 5th Year option, the Lions have the flexibility to wait until next off-season to extend Penei Sewell. That's not the case with Jared Goff, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Alim McNeill.

Stay or go: Predicting the fate of all the Detroit Lions free agents
.........
The only difference of opinion I have with Jeff Risdon regarding what he expressed in the article is I believe that one way or another, Romeo Okwara will be on the Lions 53 man roster in the 2024 Regular Season. This is even if Romeo Okwara isn't on the Lions opening day 53 man roster.

NFL Top 100 2024 free agents: Chris Jones, Kirk Cousins top the list
90. Lions receiver Josh Reynolds 99. Lions offensive guard Graham Glasgow 103. Lions defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson
..........
If Jonah Jackson elects to sign a multi-year contract, I expect his contract to reflect someone in the top 50 of the list, regardless of Jackson not being on the PFT list.

Detroit Lions still working to sign Josh Reynolds in 'best free agency' under Brad Holmes
..........
This thread relates to the following thread:
Broncos to sign WR Josh Reynolds (UFA-Lions) to 2yr contract
detroit-lions-forum.proboards.com/thread/2091/broncos-sign-reynolds-lions-contract
I'm highly confident that the Lions 'Plan A' in Free Agency was for players that fit in a price range that the Lions were willing to pay. Hence, that's why Danielle Hunter for example wasn't considered the Lions Plan A DE/ Edge player.
All things considering, the Lions did very well in the 1st and 2nd Phase of the NFL Free Agency Period, including the FAs (and their contracts) the Lions re-signed.
The Cam Sutton situation, which led to his release, was a major setback though. This is even factoring in the Lions acquiring Carlton Davis from the Bucs in a trade, the signing of Raiders UFA Amik Robertson, and the re-signing of UFA Emmanuel Moseley. With the loss of Sutton, the Lions need at least one more CB who would be expected to make the 53 man roster.

5 remaining free agents who can still help the Lions
..........
This thread relates to the following thread:
Lions match the 49ers offer sheet for RFA TE Brock Wright
detroit-lions-forum.proboards.com/thread/2104/lions-match-49ers-offer-wright\
With the Lions making the 49ers RFA offer for Brock Wright, it's highly unlikely that the Lions will seriously pursue Geoff Swaim barring something unexpected to one or more of the Lions current TEs.
I would be surprised if the Lions ended up signing Tyler Boyd before the draft. Two reasons for this:
1. Tyler Boyd is an UFA, hence if Boyd is signed before UFAs no longer are part of the Compensatory Draft Pick formula, his contract could cost the Lions in the 2025 Compensatory Pick process.
2. It's a deep WR Draft crop, hence the Lions might not have serious interest in Boyd, if the Lions draft a WR that has at least some of Boyd's skill set.
My guess is Justin Simmons won't sign a contract before the draft, unless it's a contract that's more than the Lions would be willing to pay.
Andrus Peat makes more sense for the Lions than Laken Tomlinson, because Peat can provide depth at Guard and Tackle on Offense. Tomlinson is limited to Guard.
