Arik Armstead declines pay cut, will be released
..........
Arik Armstead is coming off a good to very good season when he wasn't sidelined by injury. However, Armstead missed 5 games in the 2023 season and 8 games the previous season. Knee injuries have caused him to miss plenty of games. With Armstead turning 31 in November, the Lions probably will have better options in the interior Defensive Line based on cost and risk.

Jonathan Greenard agrees to sign with Vikings
...........
Two thoughts immediately come to mind:
1. The Edge Rusher/ DE higher end market is going to be expensive. Jonathan Greenard is coming off a good season but I think the Vikings anticipate that Greenard is capable of being a # 1 Edge player.
2. Related to thought # 1, it looks like Danielle Hunter, who clearly is a # 1 caliber Edge Rusher/ DE, very likely will be signing elsewhere. The Lions could be a major player for Hunter, though his asking price is understandably going to be significantly higher than what Greenard is receiving from the Vikings.

Dorance Armstrong agrees to three-year deal with Commanders
...........
When considering what Jonathan Greenard will be receiving from the Vikings, the Washington contract for Dorance Armstrong looks relatively good on the surface for the team. Dan Quinn's familiarity with Armstrong is a major plus for Washington.

Danielle Hunter agrees to two-year deal with Texans
.......
Enormous addition for the Texans. They are shaping up as a major contender in the AFC for a Super Bowl berth for the 2024 season.
I'm not sure if the Lions were a serious player for Danielle Hunter in 2024. My guess is Hunter's asking price was at least significantly beyond what the Lions would have been comfortable offering Hunter. For Hunter, the price might have been worth it. The Lions are scheduled to play in Houston in the 2024 season.

Khalil Mack to remain with Chargers on revised contract
........
Barring something very unexpected, this ends speculation that the Lions would end up either trading for Khalil Mack at a discount price or attempt to sign him if the LA Chargers released him. HOF caliber NFL career, with great intangibles. Good decision by the Chargers in keeping Mack in their fold.
