D.J. Reader was a differential run defender before suffering a Torn Right Quad Tendon Injury that ended his 2023 season against the Vikings in December. Reader also was an underrated pass rusher. Reader tore his Left Quad Injury several years ago. Though Reader overcame that injury, he turns 30 on July 1. As someone who had a Full Quad Tendon Injury (I'm not sure what the extent of Reader's injury), it's a difficult and long rehab. This is just for normal life, not playing DT in the NFL! Because of the type of injury Reader suffered, a full medical exam by the Lions is definitely needed. Considering the likely high price tag for Reader, there's plenty of risk in signing him. But if Reader is able to overcome his latest injury this year, the reward for the Lions in signing him could be high.
