An effective running game is essence for Jared Goff to have sustained success. No QB I'm aware of depends more on opposing Defenses respecting the Lions play action passes than Jared Goff does. Play action passes are probably better suited for QBs taking the ball from Center than in Shotgun formations.

A contract extension with Jared Goff first would be the better outcome for the Lions. By extending Goff first, that would save the Lions some 2024 Salary Cap space (assuming the Lions structure the contract with a lower cap # in 2024), that would give the Lions more flexibility to extend Amon-Ra St. Brown.

Regarding the article, it's good to see Jared Goff clarify his previous comment. Goff was probably referring to one specific person who covers the Lions or a small # of media people that cover the Lions either as beat reporters or that cover Detroit sports in general.

Many times, with teams and players, when it looks like a contract agreement won't be reached soon, a contract agreement is reached either that day or sometime in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully, a contract extension agreement with the Lions and Jared Goff will be reached before the start of training camp, which is around 3 months from now.

It's fair to say that being traded by the LA Rams to the Lions was the best outcome for Jared Goff. If not for the trade to the Lions, I doubt Goff would have come even close to getting the lucrative contract extension from the Rams or another team that the Lions gave him in May.

While as always, I don't recommend any form of gambling, IMHO, the 25-1 odds for Jared Goff to be NFL MVP this season is an indicator that the odds maker(s) seem to be substantially underrating Goff.

Tua Tagovailoa signed a contract extension with the Dolphins before Jordan Love signed a contract extension with the Packers.

In fairness to Tua, the Dolphins 1st Round playoff game in the 2023 season was played in frigid conditions in Kansas City.

The main concern regarding Tue is his concussion history and overall lack of durability concerns. When relatively healthy, Tua has been a very good fit in Mike McDaniel's high octane Dolphins Offense.

This is a well deserved honor/ recognition for Jared Goff. It's a credit to him and the Lions coaches that Goff has improved as much as any veteran QB in the NFL since Ben Johnson was promoted in the 2nd half of the 2021 season.

I'm thrilled that Jared Goff erased the doubts I was having (in 2021 and to a lesser extent during the first half of the 2022 season) with him being a long-term solution for the Lions, as a result of his play. Goff has become a top 10 NFL QB, someone who is capable of being the winning QB of this Lions team, that enters the 2024 season.

Unless Jared Goff has extra confidence against the Cardinals because of his 8 game winning streak against them, I don't think his history against the Cardinals is a significant factor in the upcoming game between the teams. The Cardinals not only have a different Head Coach (Jonathan Gannon) and coaching staff than when the teams last played against each other in 2021, the Cardinals (and Lions have had huge roster turnover.

With the exception of the Lions RB unit, major improvement is needed by Jared Goff (QB) and the Lions other position units on Offense. With better play calling on Offense needed as well.
