Listing the probabilities the Lions will pick a player at each position
..........
I think the chances of the Lions drafting a WR are currently at least 85 %.
It's probably currently at least 98 % the Lions will draft at least one Offensive Lineman and around 50 % the Lions will draft two.
I think it's around 85 % the Lions will draft a DE/ Edge.
Around 45 % is what I believe are the chances the Lions drafting a Kicker.

What history tells us about the Lions pick at 29 overall
.........
Not counting Saints DT Bryan Bresee, who's off to a good to very good start in his NFL playing career, the overall results of the combined 9 other players selected with Pick # 29 in the last 10 seasons have been bad. TE David Njoku and WR-RB Cordarrelle Patterson are the only 2 players that have lived up to their draft billing. In Patterson's case, it's because of his Kickoff Return impact. None of the other 7 players have come remotely close to living up to their draft billing, though the jury is still out on Eric Stokes.

2024 mock draft: Solar Eclipse edition
.........
The combination of Jackson Powers-Johnson and Xavier Legette would be near the top of my list of Lions draft outcomes if the Lions don't make any trades involving 1st and 2nd Round Picks in the 2024 Draft. Legette with Pick # 29 is an outcome I would be comfortable with, unless someone unexpected lasts to Pick # 29 who would be difficult for the Lions to pass up.

The Lions are one of the biggest wild cards in the 2024 NFL draft
...........
I believe the combination of the Lions scheduled to pick much later in Round 1 for the team's first pick, compared to other seasons in a long time, the Lions not having any glaring needs for starters, and the unexpected decisions the Lions made in Round 1 of the 2023 Draft, makes it even more difficult than usual to accurately predict what the Lions will do in Round 1 of the 2024 Draft. Other than Kicker, I think the Lions 1st selection in the 2024 Draft could be a CB, DE. WR, Offensive Lineman, S, or DT? Including, an Interior Offensive Lineman, which will probably be a need next off-season, as well as an Offensive Tackle.

Rhett Lewis 2024 NFL mock draft 1.0: Two teams trade up for QBs; Bears pick WR at No. 9
Pick 29
Detroit Lions
Kool-Aid McKinstry Alabama · CB · Junior This feels like such a franchise fit. There’s a toughness the Lions have embraced under head coach Dan Campbell that wouldn't be a problem for McKinstry, who enters the league with a highly respected résumé, having started 33 games for Nick Saban at Alabama.
..........
Much like in my previous most recent mock draft that I posted in this thread, I don't think the Lions would pass on Jer'Zhan Newton if available with Pick # 29, under this draft scenario through the first 28 picks, and Newton having a favorable medical report by the Lions.

2024 NFL Mock Draft: AFC contenders land potential steals in back half of Round 1; Bears pair QB with top WR
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. CB MISSOURI • JR • 6'0" / 188 LBS PROJECTED TEAM Detroit PROSPECT RNK 36th POSITION RNK 7th Ennis Rakestraw Jr. just feels like a Dan Campbell guy. His energy and physicality will be welcomed in the Lions secondary.
............
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. recently had a Pre-Draft visit with the Lions. While I believe the Lions have serious interest in drafting Rakestraw, I think there's a better chance draft him as a result of a trade down from Pick # 29, than with Pick # 29.
If the Lions make a selection with Pick # 29 and the first 28 players in this Mock Draft are gone, I think DT Jer'Zhan "Johnny" Newton would have a slight edge over C-G Jackson-Power Johnson to be the Lions selection.

2024 NFL Mock Draft: J.J. McCarthy nearly falls out of top 10 while Vikings trade back twice; 6 QBs go Round 1
Kool-Aid McKinstry CB ALABAMA • JR • 6'1" / 195 LBS PROJECTED TEAM Detroit PROSPECT RNK 26th POSITION RNK 4th The Lions had to release Cam Sutton this offseason, and they'll be drinking the "Kool-Aid" at No. 29 overall. May be great value with the two-time first-team All-SEC player. ..........
I'm currently anticipating between 20 and 22 Offensive Players to go in Round 1. With around 10 Offensive Lineman going in Round 1.
If the first 28 players in this Mock Draft are off the board and the Lions keep Pick # 29, I think C-G Jackson-Powers Johnson would be the Lions selection, with CB Kool-Aid McKinstry the 2nd most likely player the Lions would choose.

MOCK DRAFT BY THE RINGER
29 DETROIT LIONS KEON COLEMAN WIDE RECEIVER FLORIDA STATE DETROIT LIONS
The Lions have two great pass catchers in Amon-Ra St. Brown and Sam LaPorta, but both are relatively undersized for their respective positions. They need to get bigger, and Coleman is big. With a big catch radius and tons of toughness in the middle of the field, he will win on Jared Goff’s favorite route—the dig—over and over again, like he did at Florida State. He also can take designed touches for big gains, and win jump balls on the outside. After the top three receivers, the wideout with the highest ceiling in this class is Coleman.
.............
This Mock Draft, which was done in March, following the early part of the NFL Free Agent Period, doesn't appear to be a favorable Mock Draft through the first 28 Picks for the Lions. Only 3 QBs were taken in the top 28. If the first 28 players in this Mock Draft are off the board at # 29, I think the Lions will make a strong effort to trade down.
If the Lions don't get a good enough trade down offer, CB Kool-Aid McKinstry is the player I believe is the most likely selection. I wouldn't rule Keon Coleman with Pick # 29, because of his Red Zone and overall size related advantages he should provide. Especially, when factoring in Coleman's highly favorable intangibles. I think DE Chop Robinson would also rank ahead of Coleman in terms of likely selections at # 29. G-T Jordan Morgan also likely would be ahead of Coleman for the Lions.

The 10 most likely Lions first-round draft targets at No. 29 overal
........
I inadvertently didn't account for Darius Robinson in the Mock Drafts above that he was able with Pick # 29. Robinson is probably getting plenty of consideration to be the selection, if available at # 29.
Marshawn Kneeland has a Pre-Draft visit scheduled with the Lions this week. Kneeland could realistically be in the mix for the Lions with Pick # 29 and a prime candidate to be the Lions selection if the Lions trade down from Pick # 29.

2024 NFL mock draft: J.J. McCarthy or Drake Maye for Patriots at No. 3?
29. Detroit Lions – Cooper DeJean, CB, Iowa What better way to follow up last year's addition of Brian Branch – and this offseason's loss of C.J. Gardner-Johnson – than with another multitalented defensive back? DeJean could be a dynamic playmaker in Aaron Glenn's scheme while filling a key void at outside cornerback, and his stout play against the run would endear him to Dan Campbell.
..........
I would be surprised if Cooper DeJean lasts to Pick # 29. If DeJean is available with Pick # 29, I think he becomes the favorite to be the Lions selection at # 29. The versatility and overall value of DeJean would probably exceed the value of the Lions trading down from # 29.

Peter Schrager 2024 NFL mock draft 1.0: Giants leap up for J.J. McCarthy; Vikings stick and pick CB, QB
Pick 29 Zach Frazier West Virginia · IOL · Senior Frazier is a former state wrestling champion who's nasty, versatile and hungry. This is a Brad Holmes/Dan Campbell prospect if there ever was one, with the West Virginia product oozing bulldog characteristics. If we learned anything from the Jahmyr Gibbs and Jack Campbell picks last year, it's that the Lions draft guys they like, as opposed to dwelling on needs and perceived positional value.
.............
Zach Frazier could realistically be in play for the Lions with Pick # 29. Yet, I would be somewhat surprised if the Lions took Frazier over Jackson Powers-Johnson. I think JPJ would be the most likely Lions selection with Pick # 29, if the Lions keep the Pick, and the first 28 players in this Mock Draft have been selected in the top 28 spots.
