Lions 2024 Draft prospect of the day: Adisa Isaac, EDGE, Penn State
.........
I think there are at least a couple of key questions regarding Adisa Isaac as a potential option for the Lions, especially if he's still available with the Lions Pick in Round 2:
1. How much more, if any of the remaining pre-Achilles injury abilities Adisa Isaac had, do the Lions medical staff believe he will regain?
2. With more practice reps and game snaps, how much more instinctive does the Lions brass believe Isaac will become?

Lions 2024 Draft Prospect of the Day: Jer'Zhan "Johnny" Newton, DT, Illinois
..........
Unless Johnny Newton gets unfavorable medical designation by most NFL teams, he's probably not going to last to Pick # 29. Unless Newton is still available within a few picks of Pick # 29, I would be very surprised if the Lions trade up for him. Right now, it's not likely that the Lions will be the team that ends up drafting him. If Newton is still available with Pick # 29 and his medical report by the Lions medical staff is such that they expect his foot not to cause him problems over the long term, I think he would be at or very near the top of the list of the players the Lions consider.

Lions 2024 NFL Draft report: Austin Booker, EDGE, Kansas
.........
If Austin Booker tests well in the Combine Drills, I think he's going to be drafted somewhere from the second half of Round 1 or in Round 2.
My guess is the Lions are going to have major interest in drafting Austin Booker, with Booker very realistically being in play with Pick # 29 in the latter part of Round 1. Booker seems to have major upside potential, is a high effort player, and good football intelligence and instincts. His relative lack of experience, and bulk make him somewhat of a project. But even as a rookie, Booker can contribute as a situational pass rusher and with some off the bench rotation snaps on earlier downs.

Former Texas DT T’Vondre Sweat arrested for DWI
...........
Even before T’Vondre Sweat was arrested for DWI, I didn't think he would be drafted in Round 1. With the 2nd half of Round 2 or somewhere in Round 3 his most likely landing point. His chances of being selected in Round 2 probably dropped substantially as a result of the legal charge against him.
With the Lions signing Bengals UFA D.J. Reader to a 2 year contract, it was very unlikely the Lions would end up with Sweat even before the DWI arrest.

Lions draft prospect of the day: Brandon Dorlus, DE, Oregon
..................
Brandon Dorlus will probably be selected from the latter part of Round 2 through the middle of Round 4.
While the Lions will very likely have better options with Pick # 61 in the latter part of Round 2, it wouldn't surprise me if the Lions selected Dorius with that pick or with Pick # 73 in Round 3. Or with a pick in the projected range I mentioned in the above paragraph, as a result of the Lions trading up or down. Dorius isn't a preferred choice on this end, as I think he's too much of a Tweeter, who doesn't have high caliber instincts against the run. Yet, I don't think he can be ruled out for the Lions, even as early as the latter part of Round 2, because of the heavy emphasis the Lions place on versatility. Josh Paschal and John Cominsky are Defensive Line illustrations of this.

NFL draft preview: Florida State's well-traveled Jared Verse headlines DL class
..........
Marcus Davenport is also one of the Lions Edge Rushers/DEs.
I think EDGE player Adisa Isaac (Penn St.) will be selected in the top 50 of the draft. If Isaac lasts to Pick # 61, in the latter part of Round 2, and the Lions didn't address Edge/ DE yet, Isaac will likely get serious consideration to be Pick # 61 by the Lions.
DTs Kris Jenkins (Michigan) and Ruke Orhorhoro (Clemson) are two other DTs that could realistically be selected in the Top 50 picks of the draft. My guess is Jenkins will be taken in the top 50.
Because Texas Tech EDGE/DE Myles Cole has very good measurables, I would be at least somewhat surprised if he lasts to Pick # 164, in Round 5. Cole could go as early as the second half of Round 3, with Round 4 or the first half of Round 5 being where I believe he's most likely going to be selected.

Lions 2024 draft preview: Even after Reader addition, early-round DT would make sense
..........
A $ 15 million per season contract extension for Alim McNeill would probably be a bargain for the Lions, considering McNeill is still an ascending player and the market rate for high end DTs increasing enormously.
Ruke Orhorhoro, Kris Jenkins, and Braden Fiske all could realistically be in the mix for the Lions as early as Pick # 61, in the latter part of Round 2. Orhorhoro probably has the most upside but a lower floor.
It's more likely that T’Vondre Sweat is totally off the Lions Draft Board than the Lions drafting him in Round 3. I would be VERY surprised if the Lions are the team that ends up drafting him. The Bengals, based on their history of drafting risky character players, and their need at DT for a run stuffer, seem like a match for Sweat.
LSU DT Jordan Jefferson seems like a developmental DT, who might have to go the Practice Squad route. The earliest I can envision the Lions drafting him in is, Round 6. With Round 7 more likely, if the Lions even are seriously considering drafting him.
DeWayne Carter and Fabien Lovett could be of interest to the Lions, in large part because of their grit. Both of them likely would eventually be backup rotation players if they are on NFL 53 man rosters, barring the injury factor. The earliest I can envision the Lions taking one of them is with Pick # 163, in Round 5. Carter has a realistic chance of being taken in Round 4. My guess is the Lions will have better options than Carter and Lovett with Pick # 163. In Round 6, that's when I think the Lions could seriously consider at least one of them.

2024 Lions draft preview: Team still searching for viable Hutchinson complement
............
Chris Braswell, if available, could realistically be on the Lions radar screen with Pick # 61, in Round 2. Braswell is powerful for his size, is quick off the ball, and plays with passion. He needs to add pass rush moves but I believe he can be part of the Lions edge rotation beginning at some point in the first half of this coming season. Braswell blocked a FG and a Punt in his time with Alabama.
Jonah Elliss could be an option for the Lions as early as Pick # 73, in Round 3. At this point in time, he's much more effective as a pass rusher than at the point of attack against the run. Much like his dad, former Lions 2 Time Pro Bowl DT Luther Elliss, Jonah is an all out effort player. His size and strength though are far less than his dad had as an NFL player. The 3rd Round is where I believe Jonah Elliss has the best chance to be drafted.
Washington St. DE Brennen Jackson is a Dan Campbell type of all out grit player, who I believe will land in Round 4 and Round 5. If the Lions don't address DE before Round 5, I think he will be in play for the Lions with Pick # 164, if he's still available.
Houston Christian DE/ Edge Jalyx Hunt is a project, with substantial long term as a DE or 3-4 OLB. The most likely part of the draft I think he will be selected in is from the second half of Round 4 through the majority of Round 5. If available with Pick # 164, in Round 5, I think the Lions would seriously consider him.
Connecticut DE Eric Watts is a long DE, who could develop into a versatile piece that Brad Holmes and co. seek. He's a major project though. While I believe Watts could be drafted by the Lions as early as Pick # 164, because of his effort and grit, my guess is the Lions wouldn't seriously consider him before Round 6. Watts could realistically be selected as early as the latter part of Round 4 through much of Round 7. With Round 5 or early Round 6 being where I believe he will be selected.

Report: Lions were ready to trade up for Darius Robinson
.............
This thread relates to the following thread:
Round 1: CB Terrion Arnold (Alabama) : Pick # 24 ( 2024 )
detroit-lions-forum.proboards.com/thread/2138/round-terrion-arnold-alabama-pick
Darius Robinson was selected by the Arizona Cardinals with Pick # 27.
If the Lions were going to trade up for Darius Robinson and if it would have been to a spot after Pick # 24, where the Lions traded up with the Cowboys to select Terrion Arnold, it very likely would have been a trade with the Bucs (Pick # 26). I have major doubts the Packers would have enabled the Lions to land a 1st Round Player, even if the Packers brass believed the Lions wouldn't have selected the player the Packers were interested in. Especially, after Brian Branch having an impactful rookie season. With the Packers trading down with the Lions, from Pick # 45 to Pick # 48, in Round 2 of the 2023 Draft, that ensured the Lions would be able to draft Branch.
Round 2b: S-CB Brian Branch (Alabama) : Pick # 45 ( 2023 )
detroit-lions-forum.proboards.com/thread/1781/round-brian-branch-alabama-pick
While Darius Robinson would have very liked been an asset for the Lions, I'm far from convinced that he would have been a good opportunity cost with Pick # 26 (factoring the trade compensation) for the Lions.
