Lions 2023 NFL draft profile: Nolan Smith, EDGE, Georgia

Lions have Picks # 6 and # 18 in the 2023 NFL Draft
detroit-lions-forum.proboards.com/thread/1681/lions-picks-2023-nfl-draft
The most likely outcome is the Lions won't be drafting Nolan Smith with Pick # 6 or if the Lions trade down a few spots. With Smith likely taken when the Lions are scheduled to be on the clock again (Pick # 18). The size factor is the primary reason why I don't think Smith will end up with the Lions, especially in context with the range of picks Smith will likely be selected in. With James Houston already on the Lions roster, Smith probably wouldn't be an efficient enough selection for the Lions.

I'm not sure if there's legit concern regarding Tyree Wilson's foot injury, in which a screw was put in during surgery, or whether rumors are spreading to lower his draft stock? The Lions medical staff will play a major role in whether the Lions would draft Wilson with Pick # 6, or in a trade down, if still available. My guess is Wilson will be drafted before pick # 6, though so much also depends on the possibility of one or more additional trades from Pick # 2 to Pick # 5, for QB.
I think Myles Murphy and Luke Van Ness are realistic possibilities for the Lions with Pick # 18, if available, and the Lions don't draft an edge player earlier.
Mazi Smith and Keeanu Benton could be in play for the Lions with one of the team's 2nd Round Picks. Smith will probably be drafted before Pick # 48, the first of the two 2nd Round Picks for the Lions.
Zacch Pickens is my Lions Projection with Pick # 81 in Round 3. Pickens has huge upside as an all around DT. He needs to improve both as a pass rusher and run defender, from a technical standpoint.
I think both Siaki Ika and Zach Harrison will be drafted in Round 3, with Siaki Ika being taken before the Lions are scheduled to be on the clock with Pick # 81. While I believe the Lions will pass on Ika in Round 2 (there's a realistic chance he's taken somewhere in Round 2), with Pick # 81, the risk/ reward might be considered favorable for the Lions brass.

2023 NFL draft: Interior defensive line still among top needs for Detroit Lions
.........
Adetomiwa Adebawore probably will be drafted after Pick # 18 and before the Lions are scheduled to be on the clock with Pick # 48. If available at # 48, and the Lions don't draft a Defensive Lineman prior, he would likely be one of the Lions best options.
I would be surprised if Jerrod Clark is drafted in Round 3. There's a greater chance he lasts to Round 6 than being selected in Round 3. With Round 4 or Round 5 the likely landing spot for Clark. If Clark is available with Pick # 152 in Round 5 (IMHO, a 45 % chance) and the Lions don't add a DT with bulk strength earlier in the draft, he would probably be one of the Lions best options at # 152.
Cory Durden and P.J. Mustipher, if available in Round 6, could be worth considering. One or both might end up being an UDRFA (s) that the Lions could have serious interest in signing.

Lions 2023 draft preview: At edge, Detroit could choose to add talent to a deep position
.........
There are some (more than a handful of Mock Drafts) that have Will Anderson lasting to pick # 6. A team outside the top 5 would need to trade into the top 5 for it being realistically possible that Anderson is available at Pick # 6 for the Lions.
Keion White and/ or Felix Anudike-Uzomah might be available with Pick # 48, in Round 2. Both would need to be seriously considered, if available at # 48 or even Pick # 55, if the Lions don't address the Edge position earlier in the draft.
Zach Harrison might last to Pick # 81 in Round 3. It's a close call but I think it's more likely than not Harrison would be taken already. If Harrison is available at # 81, I think the Lions could maximize the pick better. Harrison would probably not play much on Defense as a rookie for the Lions and his upside probably isn't at the point to take him over someone who could help substantially in the 2023 season.
If the Lions brass believes Thomas Incoom is worth taking with one of the Lions 5th Round Picks or in a trade down, it would make sense for the Lions to draft him, if the Lions didn't address Edge player earlier in the draft. Incoom has a good power/ speed combination. I can envision Incoom as a winning level Special Teams player, which would give him a better chance of being on the Lions Game Day roster as a rookie. Good competitor, who had the type of production that should appeal to Brad Holmes, Dan Campbell, and Aaron Glenn.

Lions 2023 draft preview: Could defensive tackle Jalen Carter be an option at No. 6?
..............
Keeanu Benson will probably be drafted somewhere in Round 2. If the Lions pass on Benson with Pick # 48, he might not be available for the Lions with Pick # 55. That's what happened in my Mock Draft, as I projected Benson going to the LA Chargers with Pick # 54. I would have projected Benson at Pick # 55, if he lasted one more pick. I think Benson is the best very realistic option in the first 2 Rounds of this draft. He's going to need to play lower much more consistently and development more pass rush moves to be the type of player he's capable of. But his work ethic and effort are favorable.
Kobie Turner is going to have to come his below average size, including arm length. While the Lions coaches should appreciate Turner's intangibles, I don't think Turner offers enough for the Lions to draft him in Round 3. Turner more likely than not will be drafted before Pick # 152 in Round 5. Even in that spot, the Lions probably will have better overall options.

Why the Detroit Lions should draft Tyree Wilson
...........
IF Tyree Wilson's medical situation satisfies the Lions Medical Staff, more likely than not, the Lions will draft Wilson if he lasts to Pick # 6. I would be comfortable with the decision. Wilson has unique abilities at a premium position. The type of abilities that will land Wilson in the Pick # 2 to Pick # 5 range, if the Texans, Cardinals, and /or Seahawks are satisfied with his medical situation.
