I envisioned Jermar Jefferson be selected somewhere from Round 4 to Round 6. With Round 5 the most likely landing for Jefferson. The Lions selecting Jefferson with pick # 257 is a good value decision by Brad Holmes and Co.
Alabama LB Dylan Moses, Mississippi TE Kenny Yebuah, and Jefferson's teammate with the OSU Beavers, DE Hamilcar Rashed Jr., are players I slightly would have preferred the Lions taking over Jefferson. But a solid case can be made for Jefferson being the better choice.
My disappointment was the Packers drafting Mississippi St. RB Kylin Hill with pick # 256, right before the Lions were on the clock. Hill is a much more accomplished receiver than Jefferson. In my Mock Draft, I projected Hill to be selected by Houston with pick # 108, the third pick of Round 4.
Jermar Jefferson has very good vision as a rusher. This is combined with his good quickness, cutting ability, lower body strength ( relative to his size ) and desire. Jefferson has average to below average timed speed for an NFL RB prospect. However, Jefferson had 65, 75, and 82 yard runs in a two game period in the 2020 College Football season. The main concern with Jefferson as a rusher is he fumbled 6 times in his 3 combined seasons with Oregon St..
The other major concern with Jefferson as an NFL RB prospect is he's entering the NFL as a liability with blitz pickup/ pass projection. Jefferson didn't offer much more as a receiver than with checkdowns, with Oregon St..
Unless the Lions are dealing with a significant injury to one of the team's top 3 RBs ( Halfbacks ) when the 2021 Regular Season is on the horizon, Jefferson will probably have to go the practice squad route unless he makes plenty of progress with especially ball security and pass protection. At this time, I believe the most likely outcome is Jefferson would clear waivers. A full season for Jefferson on the Lions P.S. could turn out to be the best Lions scenario with Jefferson.
