2021 NFL draft preview: Are the Detroit Lions set at running back?
.....
Through this point in time in the 2021 off-season, Jamal Williams is the only Free Agent from another team or Salary Cap Casualty who the Lions signed to a 2 year contract. All of the other Lions signings of open market players, formerly with another team in the 2020 season, are for 1 year. When combining this with the Lions only having 6 draft picks, in the 2021 Draft, at this time, the only way it would make sense for the Lions to draft a RB if the Lions don't add anymore 2021 draft picks is for the RB to have impactful versatility. It could be as a slot receiver, H-Back, or on Special Teams. Ideally, in multiple roles.
If the Lions add one or more picks, that increases the flexibility the team has to draft a RB.
I would be extremely surprised if the Lions drafted a RB this year in the top 2 Rounds.
