Matt Breida, Mike Davis, and Jamal Williams would be good additions, not factoring in what it would cost the Lions to sign one of them. Williams, like far too many other RBs, has an impressive track record against the Lions. Williams' receiving skills are a plus. He's earned Aaron Rodgers' trust, which is easier said than done.

Until more details come out about the 2 year contract Jamal Williams agreed to, I won't offer an opinion about whether this contract is a good decision by the Lions.

Two additional thoughts about Jamaal Williams come to mind:

1. He was amongst the Packers most popular players.

2. He played in 66 of the Packers combined 70 regular season and playoff games in his 4 seasons with the Packers.

If Jaamal Williams has the type of season for the Lions in 2021 that is similar to how he performed with the Packers, it's easy to envision the two parties agreeing to a restructured contract in 2022 that adds another season to the contract. The salary cap number under the deal Jaamal Williams will sign this week, or soon, after is favorable for the Lions. The cap number in 2022 as it stands now or increases if Jaamal Williams reaches one or more incentives, will be on the high side for a # 2 RB.

Jamaal Williams benefited greatly with Aaron Rodgers as a Packers teammate. Aaron Rodgers seems determined ( indirectly this time ) for Williams to benefit from him again.

Once the Packers drafted RB A.J. Dillon in Round 2 last year and gave Aaron Jones a high valued RB contract this off-season, it very likely that Jamaal Williams would be moving on.

Jaamal Williams is proving to be a great addition for the Lions. Certainly, beyond his good all around play on the field. I expect him to get a good reception from Packers fans prior to the game.
