Lions should have interest in safety Tre Boston, who is being released by the Panthers
Panthers to release Tre Boston
.....
If Tre Boston hits the open market, I would be comfortable if the Lions signed him at a noticeable lower per year amount than the 3 year / $ 18 million contract he signed with the Panthers in March, 2020.
While Tre Boston has had a pretty good NFL career, what jumps is he's been with 3 teams (the Panthers twice over a several year period in essence makes it 4 teams ) in his first 7 seasons in the NFL. Anthony Lynn's opinion on Boston should go along way in whether the Lions offer Boston a contract ( if he's released by the Panthers. )

Saints will release Janoris Jenkins
.......
Being that Aaron Glenn coached Janoris Jenkins in the last couple of seasons, he can provide Brad Holmes with insight on Jenkins that very few people have.
Because Jenkins turn 33 this coming fall and has had multiple non-football concerns at times, my gut feeling is the Lions shouldn't attempt to sign him.

Here's the one player the Detroit Lions should splurge on in free agency
........
Though I think the Lions would like to sign John Johnson and are comfortable paying him very well, there's a limit to what the Lions will offer Johnson. It's highly likely that a number of other teams will be willing to pay Johnson big bucks. If Johnson decides to leave the LA Rams, his decision on whether to sign with the Lions ( if offers are in the same ballpark ) will come down to whether he wants to re-join Brad Holmes and Aubrey Pleasant as part of a long term building process? Or whether Johnson prefers to sign with a team that's much better positioned to be a serious Super Bowl contender in the next couple of seasons?

Chargers cut Casey Hayward
......
Until the 2020 season, Casey Hayward went 6 straight seasons without missing a game. At age 31, Hayward missed 2 games because of injuries and likely was adversely affected by injuries in a number of other games.
As players get older, injuries are more difficult for them to rehab from. Hayward will be 32 during the 2021 season. If Anthony Lynn and the Lions overall brass believes Hayward can have a bounce back season, the positives of the Lions signing Hayward ( if the price is immensely less than what he was to receive under his Chargers contract ) are he can provide competition at CB and be a mentor to the young CBS on the roster.
The moat likely outcome is another team offers Casey Hayward more than he's worth to the Lions, based on the team's overall situation.

Detroit Lions free agency preview: Bad contracts, busted draft picks create need in defensive backfield .......
Regardless what else the Lions do to address the CB situation, P.J. Williams likely is a prime FA target for the Lions. The familiarity factor for Aaron Glenn and Dan Campbell, combined with Williams' versatility, he doesn't turn 28 until June, and that he's been relatively durable, all add value. Yet, Williams probably can be signed at a modest price. Williams stepped up in Detroit in game # 4 in the 2020, when the Saints were with their 2 starting CBs for the game.
The Lions probably have serious interest in Desmond King, Michael Davis, and Rayshawn Jenkins. Anthony Lynn's input on each of them should prove very helpful for the Lions. They are young enough to realistically be productive/ effective players for several more seasons. So much likely will depend on their market value.

Browns agree to terms with John Johnson III
Agents: John Johnson III turned down higher offers to sign with Browns
......
The article from Cleveland.Com, that is linked to the follow-up PFT article mentions that one team offered significantly more money for John Johnson III than the Browns did. Being that the Lions, Eagles, and Jaguars are listed as other teams that were interested in signing JJIII, it's likely that of the 3 other teams, it was the Jaguars that made the large offer. They had much more salary cap space going into yesterday.
Based on the cost for the Lions to sign JJIII probably being noticeably higher than the Browns cost to sign him, I am very comfortable with the Lions not signing him.

The Browns will be a serious contender next season in their division, they already were this year, but next year, against an aging Roethlisberger and a rebuilding Bengals among other things, I would put the Browns in competition with the Ravens for the division title, hence the decision of John Johnson III maybe ?

Very well stated! I completely agree.
Unless something of high significance in the AFC North changes substantially, either the Ravens or the Browns will win the 2021 Season AFC North Title.
I'm not expecting Ben Roethlisberger to find the fountain of youth. I'm anticipating that the 2021 season will be his final NFL season.

Report: Safety Jayron Kearse visiting Cowboys
.....
This new thread relates to the following thread:
Lions release S Jayron Kearse
detroit-lions-forum.proboards.com/thread/858/lions-release-jayron-kearse
As it turned out, Jayron Kearse wasn't promoted from the Baltimore Ravens Practice Squad to their 53 man roster during the playoffs.
It remains to be seen if the Cowboys will sign Jayron Kearse.
I'm confident that Kearse won't be joining Marvin Jones and Jamal Agnew in Jacksonville as long as Darrell Bevell is on the Jaguars Coaching Staff.
Like the Cowboys, the Lions also have interest in Falcons UFA S-CB Damontae Kazee.

Panthers signed A.J. Bouye to multi-year deal
.......
The signing of A.J. Bouye might reduce the chances of the Panthers drafting a CB with pick # 8 or later in Round 1 to some extent. However, I still believe a CB is still a realistic possibility as early as pick # 8 for them. It's more likely they will draft an Offensive Lineman at # 8 or later in Round 1.
