Detroit Lions release safety Jayron Kearse ahead of season finale

Releasing Jayron Kearse is a horrible decision by the Lions interim brass! The direction the Lions should have tried to go in with Kearse was the GM and HC that will be hired by the Lions, make the decision.
What demonstrates incompetence is that as an UFA, Kearse would have counted as part of the UFA loss column for Compensatory picks in the 2022 Draft, if Kearse signed with another NFL before the cutoff date, on whether a UFA is part of the Compensatory formula. Now, if by chance the future Lions GM and HC end up signing Kearse if he's still a UFA in 2021, Kearse would be part of the UFA gain column. If Kearse is claimed tomorrow or signed by another team in the coming days or weeks, the Lions wouldn't be able to negotiate with him until/ unless he becomes a UFA. This is likely a moot point, because Kearse probably now wants nothing to do with the Lions.
I now believe that it's in the best interest of the Lions not to hire Darrell Bevell as Head Coach for 2021 and beyond. And that the Lions are better off not hiring any of the 3 in-house GM candidates.

With his athletics and abilities, I thought Jayron Kearse could take part in the revamping process. What you have mentioned about the compensatory pick makes this release even more surprising.

Lions safety Jayron Kearse reportedly broke team rules before getting cut
....... Frenchy, especially because of the Compensatory Draft Pick part of the equation, I still believe the Lions interim brass made a bad decision by releasing Jayron Kearse with a week remaining in the season. They should have suspended him. At least, Kearse would have potentially been part of the Compensatory Pick formula.
Also, even though Kearse was allegedly irresponsible, the next Lions GM and HC should have had the opportunity to assess Kearse, before deciding whether attempt to re-sign him before the start of the 2021 FA period.

Ravens sign Jayron Kearse to practice squad
..........
If the Baltimore Ravens win at Cincinnati on Sunday, they clinch a Wildcard playoff berth. If this happens, with Jayron Kearse having a full week of practice next week, I'm anticipating Kearse will be signed to their 53 man roster. With him at least contributing on Special Teams in their first playoff game.

Nice signing for Jayron Kearse, the Ravens have a depleted secondary, hopefully, he will help this very competitive team.

With the Ravens having amongst the best track records with player personnel decisions, it reinforces that the Lions discarding Jayron Kearse in the final week of the season was a bad decision.
