Dan Campbell: 'We just made one too many mistakes' in hard-fought loss to Rams
………….
This thread relates to the following thread:
LA Rams 28, Lions 19 : Game # 7 ( 2021 )
detroit-lions-forum.proboards.com/thread/1230/la-rams-lions-game-2021
The hip injury that kept FB-TE Jason Cadinda out of this game caught up to the Lions in the 2nd half. Brock Wright, who replaced Cabinda for this game, didn't execute at least 3 key run blocks in the 2nd half. Though Wright, like fellow P.S. callup S Jalen Elliott made a key block on D.J. Moore's fake punt run, resulting in a first down and overall 28 yard gain & he blocked 2 players effectively on a key 2nd half running play, the 3 running plays he didn't perform well enough on were very costly.

Lions head coach Dan Campbell takes over playcalling from Anthony Lynn in tie against Steelers...,,
...............

Lions 16, Steelers 16 ( OT ): Game # 9 ( 2021 )
detroit-lions-forum.proboards.com/thread/1255/lions-16-steelers-game-2021
The Lions success with Matt Nelson as an extra blocker and only WR on the field on those plays is a huge positive from this game. Yet, it gets back to the struggles on the ground and overall on Offense after Nelson went down with an injury, combined with Jared Geoff's limitations because of his injury, and the Steelers adjustments. The Lions Offense after Godwin Igwebuike's TD run towards the middle of the 3rd QTR was the # 1 reason the Lions didn't win the game. The Lions even ending up in a tie was despite the Offensive unit play after the Lions took a 16-10, not because of it.

Lions coach Dan Campbell defends conservative playcalling, decision-making in loss to Browns
.........
This thread relates to the following thread:
Browns 13, Lions 10 : Game # 10 ( 2021 )
detroit-lions-forum.proboards.com/thread/1263/browns-13-lions-game-2021
The Lions were at an immense disadvantage in 3rd and long situations. When the Lions did attempt passes that needed some time to develop, chip blocking was usually used to help either Taylor Decker and / or Penei Sewell ( he was a bright spot on Offense for the Lions in this game.). The WRs weren't getting enough separation in these types of situations. On top of that is Tim Boyle starting first NFL Regular Season game. I prefer David Blough to be the Lions starting QB when Jared Goff isn't relatively healthy. But even with Blough, there's no question the Lions would have been at a major disadvantage in 3rd and Long situations.
Trying for a FG in that 4th and 1 situation was a good decision. Even if the Lions would have tried for a 1st Down and succeeded, it still would have been an uphill battle to get a TD on the drive. The FG gave the Lions a much better chance at winning the game than coming away with no points.

Dan Campbell still sees Lions Thanksgiving tradition as a special thing
.......
Dan Campbell was on IR for the Lions 2007 and 2008 season Thanksgiving Day games.
With more and more people calling for the Lions to be removed from the Annual Thanksgiving Day game, it's essential that the Lions play an inspired game against the Bears this coming Thanksgiving Day.

Dan Campbell’s honeymoon is officially over in Detroit ......
This thread relates to the following thread:
Bears 16, Lions 14: Game # 11 ( 2021 )
detroit-lions-forum.proboards.com/thread/1267/bears-16-lions-game-2021?page=1&scrollTo=6432
If Will Harris made a mistake in his coverage assignment on the 3rd and 4 play that ended up as the play all but officially sealed the win for the Bears: It's the coaches fault for not hammering home that the one thing Harris couldn't do is allow a 1st Down without a TD resulting. Either way, Harris should have avoided touching Byrd after he caught the ball.
Regarding the ultra conservative play calls on Offense in the long yardage situations mentioned in the article, a solid or even a strong case can be made for Dan Campbell to be much more aggressive in those situations. Yet, a case can be made that avoiding a turnover (or even a sack without a fumble) was the best game management decision in those situations.

Dan Campbell’s honeymoon is officially over in Detroit
That's exactly what I was thinking, with the same terminology (even before reading this article). Now will come the time of doubts, critics and questionings : was Dan Campbell the right choice for this team, and with such a long-term contract ? No doubt about his passion for the game and for the team, but more about his management (in general), he may be good in tactic but mediocre in strategy and in my view that may be the stumbling block ?

Dan Campbell needs to realize his mistake that a Bears TD wasn't the worst outcome in the situation. Campbell also needs to have the staff in place to substantially increase the chances that he will be provided key information in the heat of battle, in a more efficient and effective manner, than at present. If both don't happen, there's a good chance that Campbell will need to be replaced well before his 6 year contract expires.

Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell regrets running on third-and-32 vs. Chicago Bears ............
Because Dan Campbell never called plays before, I think that this compounds the mistake he made in taking over the Lions play calling. It projects instability and desperation.
I remain concerned that the Lions will have more limited options for the Offensive Coordinator position, if the Lions and Anthony Lynn move on from each other after this season (which I expect).

Dan Campbell: 'I still want to win' despite mounting losses and injuries
.......
This thread relates to the following thread:
Broncos 38, Lions 10 :Game # 13 ( 2021 )
detroit-lions-forum.proboards.com/thread/1279/broncos-38-lions-game-2021
Related to what Dan Campbell mentioned today, Campbell used all of the Lions 2nd Half Timeouts on Defense yesterday, even though the Lions had practically no path to victory in the last few minutes of the game. Part of the overall reason for Campbell's decision (he did the same in other games that were already decided in the opposition's favor) is likely because Campbell wanted the Lions to battle until the end of the game. Campbell is trying to put in place the effort standard the Lions must meet, regardless of the situation.

Detroit Lions' Dan Campbell 'not ready to commit' to giving up play-calling in 2022 .............
Chiefs HC Andy Reid also is in Offensive Play Caller who is highly successful in that role.
The major difference between Dan Campbell and the highly successful HCs that call Offensive Plays is they have been calling plays MUCH longer than Campbell. I think it's in the Lions best interest that Campbell doesn't call plays as Lions HC in the 2022 season and beyond. He needs to continue to improve as a Game Manager
