Lions announce hiring of Brad Holmes as G.M.
.........
It looks like that the LA Rams are comfortable with Brad Holmes taking over as Lions GM, before the end of the Rams season. The two 3rd Round Compensatory Picks the Rams will be receiving were incentive for Holmes to get an NFL GM job.

"The two 3rd Round Compensatory Picks the Rams will be receiving"
Could you explain please ?
"Other than Brad Holmes not having experience as a GM"
You stressed that point early on, the importance of hiring an experimented GM ... Brad Holmes is not ! Let's just hope the Peter's principle will not catch him up.

Frenchy, I went back to what I previously wrote in the Lions GM and Lions HC options threads. I expressed the following in the 'Lions 2021 Head Coach options thread':
On the surface, a combination of Rick Smith, an experienced GM, with a HC on this list that fits what he's looking for, would be amongst my preferred outcomes for the Lions.
While hiring a GM with NFL GM experience would be ideal if everything else is equal, I'm more than comfortable with Brad Holmes as Lions GM, providing the Lions hire a HC with some NFL HC experience.
It would be now be extremely risky for the Lions to hire a HC with no NFL Assistant HC experience ( minimum ), with there still being plenty of risk with hiring a HC with NFL Assistant HC experience but no NFL HC experience.

Why Detroit Lions' hiring of Brad Holmes as GM is another fail for the franchise
.........
If I'm in the position of John Schneider or Kevin Colbert, my preference would have been to remain with the Seahawks and Steelers, respectively. Why leave a high level NFL organization, where you already have had huge success?
Darrell Bevell also has NFL HC experience, though FAR less than Marvin Lewis and significantly less than Dan Campbell.
Marvin Lewis can be a bridge to a younger coach, who works under Lewis. In the DLF, I mentioned my concerns about Lewis. But there's plenty of positives about Lewis as a Lions HC candidate.

...........
Being that Wade Phillips has a wealth of NFL HC experience and has worked with Brad Holmes with the LA Rams when Phillips was Sean McVay's DC, Phillips would be at or near the top of my Lions Defensive Coordinator list. That much more if the Lions hire Brandon Staley or another coach ( for the HC position ) without NFL HC experience.

Carlos Monarrez nails it on the head : "how low he ranked on the Los Angeles organizational chart as their college scouting director. He was listed five spots below GM Les Snead."

.......
This makes Brad Holmes surrounding himself with NFL executive well rounded experience in the front office and having an experienced NFL HC that much more important.

Frenchy, I'm optimistic that Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell will do well in their respective positions with the Lions.
My concerns are regarding Rod Wood and Mike Disner in their positions, beyond their previous roles with the Lions. Having Chris Spielman in a key full time advisory Front Office position is a huge positive. But at least for now, the Lions new organizational structure is unsettling.

Brad Holmes introductory press conference
.........
I just finished listening to the Brad Holmes introductory press conference. I highly recommend the entire press conference if you have the time to listen to it.
One thing I wasn't aware of until listening to the beginning of the press conference, when Sheila Ford Hamp and Rod Wood spoke, is Mike Disner does have a football background ( with the Bill Belichick led Patriots.) It's not an extensive background ( relatively speaking ). But he was a Scouting Assistant in 2007, after being an intern the previous 2 seasons. I'm somewhat more comfortable with his expanded role than I was previously.
My greatest concern is that neither Brad Holmes or the Lions Head Coach has final say in personnel decisions. I get the impression that Rod Wood would make the decision if Holmes and the HC can't come to an agreement. If this is the case, it's imperative that Chris Spielman, not Rod Wood, is who makes the call ( even if technically Wood has final say ).
I was very impressed with Brad Holmes during the entire time he spoke, listened too, and answered questions. Two things in particular stood out that I consider important:
1. Brad Holmes believes strongly in the intangible component of players. Passion is something Holmes puts a great emphasis on.
2. He feels that the GM needs to be on the same page as the vision the HC has. Based on the importance Holmes puts on leadership and passion for the HC position, he should have a strong foundation with Dan Campbell.
