...........
What was mentioned in this article is concerning, if this is indeed the same type of thumb injury Drew Brees suffered last season and Gardner Minshew Ii suffered this season. Especially, if the injury worsens.

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford looks 'great' in return to practice
........
Barring a setback, it looks like Matthew Stafford will start this game. Unfortunately, two of his top WRs and the Lions most dynamic RB all didn't practice today. D'Andre Swift is highly likely going to be out for the Panthers game. With Kenny Golladay and Danny Amendola both on the verge of missing this game as well.

Detroit Lions' Matthew Stafford says thumb is ready for Thanksgiving vs. Houston Texans
.......
The good news is Matthew Stafford didn't have an injury designation on Wednesday's Injury Report.
I'm cautiously optimistic that the Lions Offense will come out strong in the first quarter. Yet, I'm concerned that the Lions will be able to maintain good Offensive play. With the challenges the Lions Defense faces against DeShaun Watson and the Texans passing game, every position on Offense for the Lions is huge.

The only time Kenny Clark has made a play in this game is by playing backward It's a regrettable injury but Stafford should know better than anyone that it is difficult / dangerous to slide on this synthetic turf !?

.........
Kenny Clark looked like a runaway freight train on a direct path to Matthew Stafford and Lions RBs far too often.
If I could choose a Packers Defensive Player to add to the Lions Defense ( not factoring in salary cap implications ), it would probably be OLB / DE Z' Darius Smith because of his differential pass rush skills. Including, his versatility to be a force as a pass rush either on the outside or the interior. Yet, Kenny Clark would be a close 2nd. For yesterday's game, Aaron Rodgers would be my MVP choice. With Davonte Adams 2nd, and Kenny Clark 3rd.
Matthew Stafford is as tough as nails and made sure he had the first down. But he paid a heavy price. I'm not sure what Stafford could have done differently if his goal was to get the 1st Down once he decided to take off running. In hindsight, it definitely would have been better if Stafford slide before he got past the 1st Down mark. Yet, that's not who Stafford is.

I think Stafford's cleats were hooked in the turf and this stopped his sliding short. This would probably not have consequences without Clark heavily falling on him. That's really bad luck again, with the first down and the time left, there was something to hope for.

Matthew Stafford X-rays negative, could play again; Jeff Okudah’s season over
....
From the standpoint of the outcome of the game: Unless something occurred that was different than the Packers getting into long FG range, with Mason Crosby making a mega clutch 58 yard FG, the Packers being on the favorable end of an officiating / replay decision on the Lions Onside Kickoff attempt, and the Packers getting a game sealing first down. even. a relatively healthy Matthew Stafford wouldn't have been enough for a Lions possible comeback win.
The good news under the circumstance of the injury is the rib x-rays were negative.

Considering the chain of events you are listing, it definitely rolled in their favor. The onside kick was another frustrating flip coin call.
Good news for Matthew. Next time, he may consider using the Kirk Cousins technique ... diving head first lol

Do you think David Blough may develop into a potential starter ?

Probably not. At least from the standpoint of a starter the team isn't looking to replace in a year or two.
David Blough looks like he can develop into a long term # 2 QB who is better than the majority of NFL # 2 QBs. So much will depend on opportunity.
