Lions QB Matthew Stafford insists back is healthy
………………
The benefits of Matthew Stafford playing in a pre-season game can't be reproduced in practice. Tbe risk of Stafford playing in a pre-season game is enough that it's not clear cut whether he should play in the 3rd pre-season game.
I would prefer if Stafford plays at least a couple of possessions vs. Buffalo, if he's relatively healthy. I would understand if Stafford is kept out. The Lions season is all but officially over if Stafford suffers an injury that will keep him out for at least most of the regular season.

Does Matthew Stafford even need to play in the preseason? .....
I think Matthew Stafford would benefit in a significant manner by playing in the pre-season. Even on a limited basis. It gets back to risk vs. reward. The only way Stafford should play vs. Buffalo on Friday Night is if the Lions have the vast majority of Offensive starters ( or key rotation players ) or more on the field with him.

Detroit Lions' preseason games don't matter. So why should Matthew Stafford play?
…………………..
As important as it is for Matthew Stafford and the Lions Offense ( and Defense ) to be sharp in Arizona in 16 days, caution with key players in the pre-season makes sense. The Lions already have suffered a number of major injuries in a pre-season game this summer. Losing players the team is counting on as key starters would be a disaster. If they play, it should be on a lomited basis.

Most starting quarterbacks played less than 30 preseason snaps
………………………
Matthew Stafford had 33 pre-season snaps. All against the Bills in the 3rd pre-season game.
Philip Rivers, Carson Wentz, and Aaron Rodgers are the starting QBs of the Lions opponents in game 2, 3, and 5, respectively.
Kyler Murray is the opposing starting QB in the Lions 1st game.

Lions’ Matthew Stafford on ill-timed timeout: ‘I’m over it’
…………..
It's good to see Matthew Stafford display leadership. I don't think the timeout called is an issue that will adversely affect the Lions moving forward.
The play call is what's troubling on this end. This has been my point of view all along. In a situation like that, if you don't get the first down, the clock must continue to run.
