If a Lions player (with the exception of Hendon Hooker, Nate Sudfeld, and a Specialist on Special Teams) is in the final pre-season game as late as the first possession of the 4th QTR, the player's chances of being on the Lions initial 53 man roster are slim. Even being in the game in the middle of the 3rd QTR doesn't bode well for a player's chances of surviving the cutdown to 53.

This pre-season game will be another test for the Lions backup players in the game while the Steelers starters remain in the game. Steelers # 2 QB Justin Fields will also be a challenge for the Lions Defenders in the game when he's playing. Fields gave the Lions starting Defense plenty of problems when he was on the field for the Bears.

Going into the Lions pre-season finale vs. the Steelers, I don't believe that any of the taller WRs battling to be on the Lions initial 53 man roster will be on the initial 53 man roster. It's even possible the Lions cutdown to 3 WRs, before adding one or two WRs in the days that follow.

If Nate Sudfeld is on the Lions 53 man roster, TE comes to mind as the position unit most likely to have one less player on the initial 53 man roster than if the Lions only carry 2 QBs (Jared Goff and Hendon Hooker) on the 53 man roster.

I believe James Houston hasn't secured a roster spot yet and should be included with Mitchell Agude, Isaac Ukwu, and Mathieu Betts as Edge players battling for 1 or 2 roster spots.

This is largely why Special Teams are very important, regarding Isaiah Williams changes of being on the Lions initial 53 man roster.

Shane Zylstra's chances of being on the Lions 53 man roster could easily come down to the Lions WR situation beyond the top 3.

Unless Craig Reynolds suffered an injury that's going to keep him out for a while, I think he's going to be on the Lions initial 53 man roster. Reynolds contributions on Special Teams and his intangibles helps makes him valuable to Dan Campbell.
