Nate Sudfeld's new Lions contract should rule out any talk of another QB
.......
Three thoughts come to mind:
1. The Lions prefer to keep Nate Sudfeld all season long, ideally on the Practice Squad, after being released when the Lions cut down to 53 players. Sudfeld, as a vested veteran wouldn't be subject to the Waiver Claims process, unless he's released from the 53 man roster after the NFL Trade Deadline in November.
2. I still believe it would make sense for the Lions to bring in another QB at a very low cost, in case an injury occurs to one or more of the Lions 3 QBs. This way, the QB who's added has at least familiarity with the Lions 0ffensive system.
3. It's possible another team could offer Sudfeld more than the Lions to sign a Practice Squad Contract, if as expected he's released when the Lions cutdown to 53. Sudfeld has familiarity with Kyle Shanahan's Offensive system, from Sudfeld's days with the 49ers. The 49ers have already demonstrated they are willing to sign Lions players in an unorthodox manner, as evidenced by the Brock Wright RFA offer sheet.
