This is very unfortunate news for Nate Sudfeld. Hopefully, he will make a full recovery and have the opportunity to compete for a backup NFL QB position in the NFL, in 2024, if that's the direction he's chooses.
It's now near certain that the Lions will be placing Nate Sudfeld on season ending IR today or tomorrow. With Adrian Martinez, being released, and agreeing to sign a Practice Squad contract with the Lions after he clears waivers. I can't envision a scenario in which Martinez is claimed off waivers by another team following the cutdown to 53 tomorrow.
This is also a reinforcement of the decision by Dan Campbell not to use Jared Goff as a player in any of the 3 Lions pre-season games. I definitely believe that the Lions will try to have Joint Training Camp Practices with 2 different teams in future seasons, much like was the case this summer, with the Giants and Jaguars being the Lions respective opponents in Joint Practices.
