I didn't anticipate Romeo Okwara stepping away/ retiring as an NFL player this off-season. My guess is the demand for his services as a player wasn't high enough at this time for Okwara to want to continue playing.
Unfortunately, the Achilles Tear injury that Romeo Okwara suffered in Game # 4 of the 2021 season in Chicago had a major negative impact on his NFL playing career. Okwara had some clutch moments in the 2023 season but much of his success was effort/ hustle driven. Okwara likely would have been on the Lions roster bubble, if he ended up re-signing with the team.
I wish Romeo Okwara the best of health and success. He's a class act and very good person. I'm glad he had the opportunity to be Lions teammates with his younger brother Julian for 4 seasons. Not many brothers end up being NFL teammates, that much more for at least 4 seasons.
