Practice observations: Detroit Lions like how they fared vs. Giants: 'It was a good day'
...........
The Lions need a couple of players to jump out as Punt Gunners. Ideally, players that would make the Lions opening day 53 man roster even if Special Teams wasn't the # 1 reason why.
Kalif Raymond is close to a lock to being on the Lions 53 man opening day roster for a 3rd Straight season, if he remains relatively healthy. Of the Lions WRs,after Amon-Ra St. Brown, I believe Raymond has the highest % chance of being on the Lions 53 man opening day roster.

Detroit Lions observations: Jahmyr Gibbs, Sam LaPorta, Brian Branch shine vs. Giants
...........
Unlike last season, Nickel/ Slot CB should be a team strength this season.
If Derrick Barnes plays at or above his current level in the pre-season games, he's going to see plenty of action at LB this season, whether or not he's a starter.
I'm surprised that the Dave Birkett considers Starling Thomas V a lock to survive the Lions cutdown to 53. If the roster decisions were made at this time, I believe Thomas would be on the Lions roster, following the cutdown to 53 (and on the Lions opening day 53 man roster. Yet, I think it's too early for any UDRFA on the roster to be considered a roster lock. In Thomas' case, he was far too penalty prone with holding and illegal contact earlier in training camp. I'm not sure if that's still an issue with him.
Josh Paschal is going to get a lot of snaps per game on Defense if he continues on his current path. The same with Brian Branch.
