From my point of view, John Cominsky has been one of the most pleasant surprises this summer for the Lions. To the point that I would be very surprised if the Lions released him in the cutdown to 53. Going into training camp, at best I thought he had a 50-50 chance to survive the cutdown to 53. With it being more likely than not that he wouldn't. Cominsky's versatility on the Defensive Line, his football intelligence/ instincts, and hustle all add up to Cominsky being a player who will very likely be in the Lions Defensive Line rotation at least early in the regular season.

Unfortunate setback for John Cominsky and the Lions. Cominsky's versatility on the Lions Defensive Line is going to be missed. Mostly, his contribution as an interior Defensive Lineman in expected passing situations.

Austin Bryant is a good option as an edge player, especially as a pass rusher.

Demetrius Taylor is on the Lions 53 man roster but was inactive for the first 2 games. While Taylor has substantial upside potential, he's an UDRFA from Appalachian State.

It's great to see John Comimsky show his appreciation for his opportunities with the Lions. His efforts vs. the Commanders after the broken thumb greatly helped the Lions shut the door for an improbable but not impossible Commanders comeback.

While Alim McNeill stepped up with 4 QB pressures at Minnesota, the Lions would greatly benefit with having John Cominsky back in game action. In addition to Cominsky's role as a DT in most expected pass situations, Cominsky has value as a DE on early downs and in short yardage situations. Cominsky has the size to help set the edge, something the Lions need to do a better job moving forward, than was the case in the Vikings game. Hopefully, Cominsky will be healthy enough to return to practice right after the bye, if not sooner.

John Cominsky and Isaiah Buggs have been terrific late off-season Defensive additions by the Lions. Brad Holmes and his Pro-Personnel Staff did an excellent job identifying both players as good fits for the Lions. Both are players I'm hoping the Lions re-sign, as both are scheduled to be UFAs.
