Detroit Lions will pick eighth in 2019 NFL draft……………………….. This thread relates to the following thread:
Lions 31, Packers 0 : Game # 16 ( 2018 )
Despite the Bucs, Giants, and Jaguars all moving ahead of the Lions in the 2019 Draft order because the Lions won the 2018 regular season finale at Green Bay, pick # 8 provides the Lions with a tremendous opportunity.
If the Lions get a player at a position of need with the impact ability of Roquan Smith, Ed McCaffrey, and Vic Beasley have demonstrated at their respective positions, the Lions should be a noticeably better team in 2019 and beyond.

NFL mock draft: Mel Kiper has Detroit Lions taking LSU LB Devin White……………… It's early as much more information is going to be needed to evaluate the players in the 2019 Draft. Of the projections to the Lions mentioned in the article, at this time DE Clelin Ferrell is the one that seems to provide the best value/ need combination. What happens in Free Agency leading up to the draft could easily impact the decision making process.

Clemson EDGE Clelin Ferrell a hot name in mock drafts for the Lions……………. If the past is any indicator, pre-Combine Mock Drafts usually are off target with the projection of who the Lions end up drafting in the 1st Round. Until at least the Combine results are in, it's difficult to assess the realistic possibilities even with the Lions having a higher 1st Round pick than all but one draft starting with 2011.

I’m with you on this one, David. I just posted in a different thread that I’m opposed to the Lions drafting a TE in the first round.

Joe, related to what you mentioned, I rather the Lions trade down if at least a decent offer is on the table, than the Lions drafting a TE with pick # 8.

NFL Network mock draft gives Lions the dream of Quinnen Williams
…………………
If Quinnen Williams falls to pick # 8 in the draft, he very likely would be the highest rated player remaining on the Lions Draft Board. Williams might end up as the highest rated player on the Lions entire Draft Board. He would be difficult to pass on regardless of the strength of the Lions Defensive interior at this time.

I’m all for a trade down that would net some more draft choices; but...Quinnen Williams still available at #8?!? The value of those extra picks would have to be quite impressive to pass him up.

Agreed, Joe.
Quennen Williams lasting to pick # 8 would be a gift I'm not anticipating.

No offense to T J Hockenson; but I sincerely hope that the Lions do NOT use the #8 pick to draft him...or any other TE. I think the team addressed the position well in free agency; and there are more pressing needs elsewhere. I DO believe the TE position should and will be addressed in the upcoming draft; I just hope that it’s not with the valuable #8 pick. There will be plenty of quality TEs available in the mid-to-late rounds.

Well said, Joe.
As much as I hope the Lions don't draft a TE with pick # 8, I think T.J. Hockenson is heavily in the mix to be pick # 8 by the Lions.

Here's what Detroit Lions could get by trading down in NFL draft
………………………………… If a team wants to trade up for a QB and believes they are at significant risk of losing out on that QB if they don't trade up that spot of the draft ( pick # 8 in this case ), that's the Lions best chance of getting a good trade offer that makes sense for the Lions to accept. I would be surprised and disappointed if the Lions end up drafting Ed Oliver.
