Potential position changes abound in the Lions secondary
............
This new thread is a continuation of the following thread:
Lions Defensive Backs situation ( 2021 season )
detroit-lions-forum.proboards.com/thread/1013/lions-defensive-backs-situation-season
Versatility is usually a significant positive with an NFL player. Yet, in the case of Jeff Okudah, ike I mentioned earlier this off-season in another thread, it would seem best that experimenting with Okudah should wait until next off-season. IMHO, this year the focus with Okudah should be on him making a full recovery (or as much as possible) from the torn Achilles injury. With him working on his assignments, techniques, and recognition, as an Outside CB.

Safety plan

The Lions Safety situation for the 2022 season looks much better now than it did two months ago.

Lions secondary ranks high among the most mistake-prone in coverage
..........
Some of the plays given up are when a CB, Safety, or LB gets beat in coverage. On other players, there was at least one mental/ assignment mistake. That can even include a Defensive Lineman not being in the right position on a Zone Blitz.
The part of this study that makes me someone skeptical of the results (even though it's evident the Lions are near the bottom of the NFL in these Defensive Categories the last 3 seasons) is how do the people doing the research with the study know who was responsible for a mental/ assignment mistake on some plays?

Aaron Glenn declares open competition for starting CB job between Jeff Okudah and Will Harris
.........
I think the competition is a reflection of improvement by Will Harris. All things considering, Jeff Okudah has exceeded expectations early in training camp. Harris has gone to a player on or near the Lions roster bubble to a player who competing for a starting CB spot. This is something I didn't expect. I'm not sure of anyone other than Harris could have envisioned this.

The latest on how the Detroit Lions will try to proceed without Tracy Walker ............
This thread relates to the following thread:
Vikings 28, Lions 24: Game # 3 ( 2022)
detroit-lions-forum.proboards.com/thread/1551/vikings-28-lions-game-2022
In addition to the Safety options on the Lions current roster, the Lions will probably sign a Safety to the Practice Squad this week. One possible candidate for the 53 man roster or the Practice Squad is former 49ers S Jaquiski Tartt, who signed with the Eagles as an UFA in the off-season. Tartt was released when the Eagles got down to 53 players.
It remains to be seen if the Lions plan on going with one Safety opposite S Deshon Elliott for an entire game or if a rotation of some sort is planned at least in the foreseeable future?

Lions blame ‘miscommunication’ for busted coverage on Vikings’ game-winning TD
............
Regardless which Lions DB made the assignment mistake, the Lions communication on Defense needs to improve. Especially on possessions when the game is on the line. This also happened in multiple games last season with Tracy Walker on the field. I'm not blaming Walker. The issues are greater than Walker not being on the field on the Vikings eventual game winning TD yesterday. Both of the Hughes weren't with the Lions last season when communication/ assignment mistakes occurred in crunch time.
