Unless something changes dramatically before the start of the game, an LA Rams 38-11 victory for the 2nd straight week, or something close to it, is the most likely outcome.

Practically no one expected the Rams to lose at SoFi Stadium to the previously winless Jets last December. That much more with the Rams having 3 extra days since their previous game, a win over the Patriots. The greatest two differences between the Jets game and the Lions as the Rams opponent this coming Sunday, are Matthew Stafford is now the Rams QB and Sean McVay is likely going to treat this game like a playoff game. If the Lions shock the football world with an upset win over the Rams, it will very likely will be because the Rams were too aggressive.

‘He’s clearly the best:’ Detroit Lions hoping Aaron Donald doesn’t wreck their game

Aaron Donald was unblockable against Matthew Stafford and the overall Lions Offense in the December, 2015 game in which the then St. Louis Rams upset the Lions. That was the last Sunday NFL game played in St. Louis.

The Lions did just enough to beat the LA Rams in Detroit in 2016, doing enough to keep Donald from taking over the game. Case Keenum was the Rams starting QB that day. It was before Jared Goff became the Rams starting QB.

In 2018, Donald was the # 1 reason why the Rams beat the Lions in Detroit. Frank Ragnow was the Lions LG back then. It was clearly a learning experience for Ragnow, who had his worst game by far in his NFL career. Donald was the reason why.

Aaron Donald is my choice for the best Defensive player in the NFL, with Bears edge player Khalil Mack 2nd. The Bosa brothers are in the conversation. Donald isn't big but he's incredibility powerful. His athletic skills, work ethic, and motor are off the charts. Donald would be my choice as the best interior Defensive Lineman I've seen.

Whether Donald has a huge stat day or not against the Lions in the Lions first game in the LA area since 1993 remains to be seen. Even if Donald doesn't put up big numbers, he likely will have a huge positive impact for the Rams.

Andrew Whitworth turns 40 in December. He's not playing like it. Matthew Stafford has benefited greatly by Whitworth being at LT, including Whitworth's leadership.

My guess is Jerry Jacobs will be covering Robert Woods most of the time in this game. With plenty of Safety help.

Darren Fells or a RB will likely provide help for Matt Nelson on many plays T.J. Hockenson is used as a receiver.

Cooper Kupp is a terrific slot receiver. Probably, the best in the NFL. A.J. Parker and co. have a very difficult task in attempting to effective cover Kupp. He's a tremendous route runner.

As a Lions fan and as someone who appreciated what Matthew Stafford brought to the table for the Lions other than some non-football activism, I don't want it to get ugly for the Lions in this game. I want the Lions to play as well as the team is capable of playing. If that happens or close to that, regardless of the score of the game, there will be positives to build on.

The Lions absolutely need to get off to a fast start in this game. Even that probably won't be enough for the Lions to win the game or have a chance to win late in the game. But at least, a fast start by the Lions would be signs of progress and get the attention of the LA Rams that they can't coast from the beginning to the end of the game.

Aaron Donald makes everyone on the LA Rams Defense better than they would be without him. Having said that, the shoulder injury Michael Brockers has been dealing with since training camp has adversely affected his play at times this season. The good news is Brockers had a full practice two days in row ( Thursday and Friday ) this week. I think this is a first for Brockers this season.

With the Lions down the field passing game struggling, especially since Quintez Cephus suffered a broken collarbone late in the first half of the game at Minnesota two weeks ago, it will be interesting to see if the LA Rams put a Safety in or near the box often. If they do, the Lions need to make them pay.

The loss of Jason Cabinda at least for today is another setback for the Lions.
