Florida's Kyle Pitts, LSU's Ja'Marr Chase make case for Detroit Lions to consider at No. 7
.......
This new thread relates to the following thread:
Lions have Pick # 7 in the 2021 NFL Draft
detroit-lions-forum.proboards.com/thread/865/lions-pick-2021-nfl-draft
At this time, I'm hoping that Kyle Pitts is taken before pick # 7 and that the Lions don't trade up for him. If Pitts would primarily be used by the Lions as a TE, I have concerns that he won't provide enough value. If Pitts would primarily be used by the Lions as a WR, it would seem like too much of a projection.
If the Falcons remain in the pick # 4 spot, I believe Kyle Pitts would be their most likely choice in that spot. With Pitts mainly being used as a TE or in the slot.. Especially, since the Falcons starting WRs are Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley.

The Nine: Kyle Pitts headlines list of top candidates for Detroit Lions in NFL draft
......
A vertical jump of 33' 1/2 " is significantly below average for an NFL WR prospect and average at best for a TE prospect.
Without the benefit of the annual NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, I have doubts that many, if not most Pro Day 40 times that are announced, are credible as historical benchmarks. Kyle Pitts is FAST for an NFL Prospect his size. However, I would take my chances with Justin Jefferson in a race. That much more, regarding football speed.
There is a realistic scenario for Kyle Pitts to be available with pick # 7. With 3 QBs near certain to be drafted in the top 3 spots, there's a solid chance a QB goes at # 4 either to Atlanta or to a team that trades up with the Falcons. Then Cincinnati decides to draft T Penei Sewell with pick # 5. Then Miami takes WR Ja'Marr Chase with pick # 6 or one of the Alabama WRs.
If Kyle Pitts is available with pick # 7, that could give the Lions a non-QB opportunity to trade down.
Though Pitts has huge upside potential, I hope the Lions go in another direction with pick # 7 that's a better risk / reward option.

Still, Kyle Pitts seems to be the perfect tweener TE / WR and could potentially be a headache for opponent's defensive coordinators ? Several commentators are simply placing him way ahead of the other TEs available in this draft.

Absolutely.
The upside potential for Kyle Pitts is enormous. A case can be made for Pitts, even as the # 2 selection in the entire draft. Yet, I'm concerned that Pitts will be a jack of all trades, master of none. Especially, relative to the opportunity cost it will take for the Lions to draft Pitts, barring the Lions trading down, with Pitts unexpectedly still being available at the lower draft spot the Lions end up.

2021 NFL draft preview: The Lions have options at tight end if they don’t land Kyle Pitts
......
he Lions have the luxury of being able to go to training camp with the team's current TE corp. If the value of a TE on the team's draft board jumps out with a given pick, that's when the Lions should serious consider drafting a TE. If the Lions don't end up with Kyle Pitts, pick # 72 in the early part of Round 3 is the earliest I believe a TE would be more than a remote possibility.
If Brevin Jordan and / or Tommy Tremble are available with pick # 112 in the early part of Round 4 ( I'm not optimistic either being there ) , that could easily be a spot in the draft that would make sense for the Lions to take one of them. Tremble seems like the type of player who could be much more productive as a receiver in the NFL than he was in college.
