The NFL Salary Cap is what might end up saving Bob Quinn and Matt Patricia. If the Lions hire a new GM and HC, there are going to be players that don't fit the next Defensive System ( especially, based on the dollar numbers of their respective contracts ) well enough. Trey Flowers immediately comes to mind.

Also, the progress Matthew Stafford made under Darrell Bevell is something that needs to be factored in to tbe decision making process.

The Lions lack a person with a football background in the organization above Bob Quinn to make recommendations to the Ford Family. Compare this to the situation with the Jacksonville Jaguars, where Tom Coughlin is above GM Dave Caldwell and HC Doug Marrone. Coughlin was the HC of two Giants Super Bowl Winning teams. Rod Wood is a person highly successful outside of football but doesn't have the background to gauge the Lions direction under Bob Quinn and Matt Patricia.

I disagree with the headline of the article. Bob Quinn is the person who decided that Jim Caldwell's performance as Lions HC wasn't acceptable. Quinn hired Matt Patricia. Quinn makes the football decisions with the Lions. Matt Patricia warrants plenty of criticism. But Quinn is the one who deserves the most heat.

I'm not sure if Darius Slay was able to get back into the game following a possible injury on the Bucs final scoring drive late in the game.

The injuries that the Lions suffered in practice in the regular season also need to be looked at under a microscope.

Something needs to change with how the Lions prepare players from a body standpoint. The Lions were pretty fortunate early in the season from an injury standpoint. That certainly changed from the Vikings game back on October 20 to the present.

When a team finishes a season with a 9 game losing streak and 3-12-1 overall, it's safe to assume that coaching staff changes will take place whether ownership demands changes or not.
