Matt Patricia, Bob Quinn will return to Detroit Lions in 2020; staffing changes coming

The news of Bob Quinn and Matt Patricia being retained for the 2020 season isn't surprising. It wouldn't have been shocking if both were fired or if just Patricia was fired. But the longer Bob Quinn remained the Lions GM as the losses piled up, the greater the chance that at the very least Quinn would be brought back. It wasn't likely that Patricia would be let go, with Quinn being retained. If the Lions were going to move on from Quinn, it probably would have happened already. Giving, the Lions a head start in the GM search process. Much like during the 2015 season when the GM Martin Mayhew was let go.
Based on the Lions not having a person with a football background above Bob Quinn in the organization, I'm comfortable with Quinn and Patricia being retained. I have major doubts that Quinn and Patricia will build a consistent winner or even a Lions team that has even one season of playoff winning success. Yet, I have more confidence in Quinn and Patricia as a tandem than the Fords and Rod Wood making a decision on the next Lions GM.
It sounds like the Fords and/ or Rod Wood told Quinn and Patricia that major coaching staff changes are needed. What qualifications do they have in assessing the Lions Coaching Staff?

Matt Patricia on 2020 return: ‘It means the world to me’
...……………
A 2-6 or worse start to the 2020 season easily could be the end of the Bob Quinn and Matt Patricia era. Martha Firestone Ford has already proven that she's willing to make massive changes in a middle of a season ( 2015 season ). It's far from a given that Quinn and Patricia will still be with the Lions a year from today or even for the Lions 2020 Thanksgiving Day game.

The Fords show guts by bringing back Matt Patricia and Bob Quinn. But will they be right?
…...………...……
Maybe I'm way off base. But my take is the most likely reason the 94 year old Martha Firestone Ford made the decision to retain Bob Quinn and Matt Patricia is she believes that there's a better chance in the next couple of years in them turning the Lions into a playoff team that's built to advance in the playoffs than starting over at GM and HC.

I don’t think that you’re way off base; those are my thoughts as well. I can’t think of any other reason.
