Sources: Lions to hire ex-Chargers coach Anthony Lynn as offensive coordinator
.......
My opinion of the Lions hiring Anthony Lynn as Offensive Coordinator is mixed. On the positive side, Lynn has a long history of being an NFL RB Coach, and was the HC of the Los Angeles Chargers for the previous 4 seasons. Though I believe Lynn didn't get good enough results with the LA Chargers, based on their talent, injuries certainly had a major adverse affect on them in a number of seasons. Lynn's HC experience should help Dan Campbell, especially in Campbell's first full season as an NFL HC. The two of them having a football relationship with the Cowboys in 2005 is a plus.
My concern is Lynn only has close to 1 full regular season as an Offensive Coordinator ( Bills-2016 under Rex Ryan ). As a Coordinator, it remains to be seen if Lynn can get good results with a balanced attack.

"My concern is Lynn only has close to 1 full regular season as an Offensive Coordinator" Brad Holmes has no GM experience, Dan Campbell only a few games as HC and Aaron Glenn has never been DC ... so with 1 full season as OC, he looks like a veteran in this GM / coaching group His HC experience should also serve him well ... I hope he will get along well with Dan Campbell, when you've been HC, it's not always easy to get back to an "inferior" position ?
I'm also questioning the length of their long-term contracts !?

If the Lions decided to have a Running Game Coordinator and Anthony Lynn was hired for that job, I would be ecstatic. Lynn did a great job with the Bills running game in 2016.
My concerns with Lynn as Lions OC mainly are regarding the passing game. Lynn's background and most of his coaching experience is as a RB Coach. One of the reasons Lynn was criticized as LA Chargers HC is many that follow that team closely believe that he put an emphasis on the running game to a fault. Keeping in mind that Lynn didn't call specific plays. IMHO, Lynn hasn't demonstrated that he can be an asset for an NFL passing game.
On the other hand, one reason that I am comfortable with the Lions hiring Aaron Glenn as Defensive Coordinator ( good point about his lack of experience in this role ) is he has a long history as a CB and has been a DB Coach or Assistant DB Coach in his entire coaching career. DB Coaches have a much better track record as Defensive Coordinators than Defensive Line Coaches and at least a somewhat better track record than LB Coaches. A DB in general more often than not sees the field from a wider lens because where he's positioned.

The Ravens are first in rushing yards and last in passing yards ... the Browns also come to mind with similar stats. I would be comfortable with the Lions joining this group.

Same here in, at least for the short run.
If the Lions are in the top 3 in Rushing in the 2021 season, the season should turn out much better than most, including me, are anticipating at this time.

Lions OC Lynn's philosophy on rookie QBs all but locks in Goff as 2021 starter
........
Impressive thoughts by Anthony Lynn.
The approach of ideally sitting a rookie 1st Round QB his rookie season ( when the outcome if a game is undecided ) is the approach I would want the Lions to have ( if the Lions draft a QB in the 1st Round ). Yet, I also agree that if a rookie QB has outperformed a veteran starter, the rookie QB should start.

Anthony Lynn won 7 games with a rookie QB in 2020 and got fired: 'That's not my call'
.....
In addition to becoming Lions Offensive Coordinator, the good news for Anthony Lynn is he's still being paid a lot of money by the LA Chargers ( minus his salary with the Lions ).
The experiences Anthony Lynn had working with Justin Herbert as a rookie should indeed help the Lions when a high round draft pick rookie QB is added to the mix.
