After giving the Lions HC options more thought, I rank Dan Campbell at the top of my preferred list with Eric Bieniemy, of the 7 reported candidates the Lions interviewed or plan to interview.
I was very impressed with the effort and professionalism Dan Campbell had when he was a player with the Lions. Injuries the last two seasons Campbell was with the Lions prevented him from contributing much on the field. The previous season ( 2006 ), Campbell was one of the Lions best blockers at the TE position I can recall. He also was a good short and intermediate receiver. In 2006, Campbell provided at TE what the Lions currently need to compliment T.J. Hockenson.
Dan Campbell did a good job as Dolphins interim HC in 2015, under difficult circumstances. He's a leader!
Campbell working under Sean Payton in New Orleans as Assistant HC, in addition to TE Coach, is a huge plus. He also played under HOF HC Bill Parcells with the Cowboys.
I'm not concerned that Campbell hasn't been a Coordinator. He's not going to be a Coordinator if he's the Lions HC. The Interim HC experience and Assistant HC experience are what's important.
I'm not aware of any significant negatives regarding Campbell as a HC candidate for the Lions.
