Bears' Nagy raves about former colleague Bieniemy as potential head coach
.......
This thread relates to the following thread:
Lions name OC Darrell Bevell as Interim Head Coach
detroit-lions-forum.proboards.com/thread/827/lions-darrell-bevell-interim-coach?page=1&scrollTo=4156
Eric Bieniemy likely will be interviewed by multiple teams, if it's feasible. One obstacle for NFL teams could be getting an interview with Bieniemy, especially if the Chiefs aren't the # 1 seed in the AFC playoffs. With the playoffs being expanded to 7 teams per Conference, the week leading to the first round of the playoffs very likely will no longer be an option for # 2 seed team Assistant Coaches to interview for NFL HC jobs.
For the Lions, until there's a GM in place ( assuming there will be a separation of GM and HC duties ), interviews for the HC position aren't even a viable option.

Agreed. I also think Bevell will be given some credit in the next 2 division games to show if he is able to right this ship ?

Yes.
Ultimately though, Darrell Bevell's best chance to become the Lions HC ( beyond his interim status ) is if the Lions next GM has worked with Bevell previously.

Lions rank low in job appeal among NFL coaching vacancies
......
With Chris Spielman as a full time advisor to Sheila Ford Hamp and Rod Wood, I think the Lions GM and HC jobs could realistically turn out better over the long run than the Chargers, Jets, and Texans GM and HC jobs. All 3 of those organizations have major organizational issues.

On the contrary, I think the Lions are very appealing, the new GM / HC duo will nearly start from scratch and the expectations won't be high short-term-wise.

Good point!
In addition, Chris Spielman stressed patience to Lions fans during last season when multitudes of Lions fans were calling for the heads of Bob Quinn and Matt Patricia. He likely has already made this a point of emphasis to Sheila Ford Hamp and Rod Wood

....
Adam Gase ( Jets ), Doug Marrone ( Jaguars ) . and Anthony Lynn ( Chargers ) all were fired in the last 24 hours.
The Jaguars GM and HC clearly look the most appealing from my point of view. If I was a GM or HC candidate, I would stay clear of the Jets, Chargers, and Texans jobs because of their respective owners. It doesn't look like the Jets and / or Chargers will be making a GM change in this winter.
Even with the Falcons highly problematic salary cap situation, I would put them 2nd on the job appealing list of these 6 teams. With the Lions 3rd. The Falcons have pick # 4 in the draft and they have an owner ( Arthur Blank ) who has a track record of success.
The Panthers and the WFT have GM openings. Keeping in mind that both have HCs that have amongst the best job security in the NFL.

The Lions are shaking up their organizational structure, could hire coach before GM
......
The GM-Head Coach Partners Model the Lions are seriously considering concerns me. One example of this structure not working well was with the Jets, when Mike MacCagnan was their GM and Todd Bowles was their HC. They both reported to owner Woody Johnson for a couple of years. Then to Christopher Johnson, Woody's brother, after Woody was appointed U.S. Ambassador to the UK in 2017, by President Trump.
Chris Spielman being an advisor to Sheila Ford Hamp and Rod Wood provides hope that the Partners Model has a better chance of working with the Lions than it did with the Jets. However, the Lions could lose out on the team's top choice ( maybe even the team's 2nd choice ) if that candidate ( s ) chooses a GM job in which the HC reports to him.

It's subjective which team that has an opening for GM and / or HC is most attractive, least attractive, etc. Most of the NFL media and fans put the LA Chargers at or near the top of teams that are the most attractive for HCs. This video helps illustrate why the Chargers are amongst the least attractive teams from my point of view:

A big name sometimes helps attract FAs but it can work the other way as well. So much depends on who the big name HC ( or GM ) is.
The Lions should focus on trying to get the best possible GM and HC combo that provides the best chance at long term success. If this is accomplished, the Lions should end up with a quality GM/ HC combo. It might be difficult to attract quality FAs in 2021, both from the standpoint of perception about the Lions by some and if the team is clearly rebuilding. If the Lions show noticeable progress in 2021, including as an organization, that should lead to more FAs having serious interest in signing with the Lions in 2022.
