Draft rumors pegging Ja'Marr Chase to the Bengals and what that means for the Lions
......
This news is no surprise at all on this end. At the very least, the Bengals are very likely seriously considering Ja'Marr Chase with pick # 5 ( if available ).
Ironically, if Penei Sewell is drafted by the Lions and emerges the starter at RT, Sewell would replace former Oregon T Tyrell Crosby as the Lions starter at RT. The next question would then become, will Crosby have the opportunity to compete for the starting RG position?

Brad Holmes and the 'cluster' of talented options at No. 7 overall
.........
Taking Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson out of the equation because there's practically no way either will be available with pick # 7:
The questions that comes to mind are which player ( s ) , if any, are above the cluster of players that Brad Holmes is comfortable taking with pick # 7? Would Holmes be comfortable trading down ( unless it's a one sided trade in favor of the Lions ), if one or two players above the cluster he spoke about, are available at pick # 7?

The Lead: Mock Draft
7. Detroit Lions—Penei Sewell, T, Oregon First line out of rookie GM Brad Holmes’ mouth if it falls this way: No way we thought Sewell would be there at seven. Tyler Decker is solid on the left side for Detroit but Tyrell Crosby, PFF’s 66th-rated tackle last year, seems like a place-holder on the right side. No question in my mind Holmes hopes the Patriots (15) will want to pay a ransom to move from 15 to 7 and pick their QB of the future, and the way New England’s uncharacteristic offseason has gone, you can’t eliminate that as a possibility. But if the Lions stay, one of the top tackles or DeVonta Smith seems the most logical way to go . . . unless the Chris Spielman influence reverberates through the building and the best linebacker in the draft, Micah Parsons, has the Lions smitten.
8. Carolina Panthers—Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State Tiniest of all tiny clues: Interesting that the Panthers have yet to say (though many in the media have, including me) that Sam Darnold will have his fifth-year option—his 2022 contract—exercised and guaranteed by Carolina. They won’t do it, either, till at least after the draft. Count the Panthers as another team that would love to take a passel of picks from New England or Washington to move down. As I wrote last week, Carolina hates the fact that the franchise has averaged 6.2 picks per draft in the last eight years when the average team has 8.1. I’m not sure at all they’d use the pick here on Fields, because they’re truly optimistic about Sam Darnold. But owner David Tepper has made no secret that finding a franchise quarterback has to be job one, two, three and four for the team. Fields falling to them makes sense—even if it would crush the new incumbent QB.
9. Denver Broncos—Trey Lance, QB, North Dakota State Very nearly had a trade here—Denver dealing its first and second-round picks (9 and 40) to Detroit for the seventh pick, to take Lance. Denver GM George Paton still may do it, but I’m dubious the Lions will get anyone between 10 and 15 leapfrogging the two QB spots—Carolina and Denver—to take one of the quarterbacks. We’ll see. Paton is a lover of picks, so I’m not sure he’d surrender a starting player with the 40th pick to ensure getting Lance. In an ideal world, Lance goes somewhere like Atlanta to learn behind a good vet for a year or two, but in this case he’d probably challenge Drew Lock for the starting job by Halloween.
So many people are in love with Lance the prospect and it’s easy to see why. Excellent arm, good mobility, precocious player and leader. The one thing to keep in mind with Denver: Paton’s not going to go nuts for a quarterback; he’s okay with giving Lock first dibs here. However, Paton also understands he may not be in a power position to get the next quarterback like the one he would have if this scenario plays out.
........
If Brad Holmes convinces Broncos GM George Paton that the Lions are willing to trade down to pick # 19 ( WFT ) and even pick # 24 ( Pittsburgh ), that would increase the chances of the Broncos making a serious attempt to trade up to pick # 7.
If the Lions best trade down offer is pick # 7 for pick # 9 and pick # 71 in Round 3, with Ja'Marr Chase being taken before pick # 7, I hope Holmes and co. decide to make the trade.

Will 49ers’ trade to No. 3 limit other top-10 moves?
........
Time will tell if there will be enough trade in the top 10. But right now in this year's draft. Right now, I think the chances of at least one more trade are at minimum 60 %. The Bengals, because of their history of not making many draft trades, are the only team from pick # 4 to # 10 that I believe aren't a prime candidate to make a trade involving their current top 10 pick.

Rhett Lewis 2021 NFL mock draft 1.0: Packers help Aaron Rodgers; Bills boost backfield
Pick 7
Detroit Lions Trey Lance
North Dakota State · QB Is one of the Alabama wide receivers a more realistic pick here? Maybe, considering Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones are gone, but the Lions are a real wild card at No. 7. I don’t think there’s a player on the board right now who would be a surprise for a team that has some work to do in building this roster back up. Yes, the Lions have Jared Goff, but it’s his presence for the next couple years that makes this pick of Lance even more plausible. New GM Brad Holmes could choose to ride it out with Goff while continuing to upgrade the roster with four first-round picks over the next two years (one additional first rounder in both 2022 and '23 as part of the trade that sent Matthew Stafford to L.A.) and while Lance readies for his opportunity. This would put the surrounding cast in the best possible spot for whenever Lance’s time comes.
.....
The Lions taking Trey Lance with pick # 7 would be a huge story by itself. That much more with Justin Fields still available. This scenario, if presented as an option for the Lions is realistically possible but not close to probable.

Kyle Meinke’s final 2021 NFL mock draft: Detroit Lions invest in their future with Ohio State QB Justin Fields
..........
Justin Fields would be great value with pick # 7. Not that long ago, Fields was the consensus # 2 pick in the 2021 Draft.
Having said this, the trade value of pick # 7, if Justin Fields is still available, could easily be greater than the opportunity cost of the Lions drafting Fields at # 7. This, coupled with Brad Holmes' apparently still being high on Jared Goff, more likely than not would lead to the Lions trading down if Fields is available # 7.
Justin Fields would be tempting at # 7 for Holmes and Co.. The Lions would appear be in a great position, if Fields is still available at # 7.

PFT’s one, and only, mock draft of the year
7. Lions: Michah Parsons, linebacker, Penn State.
Coach Dan Campbell wants kneecap biters. Owner’s special assistant (who has plenty of influence) Chris Spielman surely values the linebacker position. This pick fits with exactly what the Lions seem to be looking to do.
.......
Regarding the comment associated with the Micah Parsons projection to the Lions in this Mock Draft:.
At the very least, not with # 7. If it happens, I expect it to occur in a trade down.

I do not want Micah Parsons at 7! My friend at Penn State said that he has a lot of raw talent but has a ton of red flags. If we trade down from 7 and Parsons is available that’s fine. At 7 I’d prefer to give Jared Goff another weapon at WR

Batchrules, thanks for your input.
I'm not surprised that someone at Penn St. sees Red Flags with Micah Parsons. His lack of responsibility, remorse, and regret for his actions was apparent when he answered media questions several weeks ago. I definitely don't want the Lions to take him at # 7 and prefer that the Lions don't even take him later in Round 1.

Predicting Detroit Lions' NFL draft picks: 3 scenarios to love in Rounds 1-3 .....
Each of the 3 scenarios has it's plusses and minuses. Scenario 3 is my favorite of these options. ( Though a trade down with Denver is less likely because of their trade acquisition of QB Teddy Bridgewater ). The extra pick in the upper part of Round 3 ( even the Broncos 3rd Round pick in 2022 isn't included ) is appealing.
Patrick Surtain II would give the Lions a foundation piece at a key position. Though this is earlier in Round 2 than I would prefer the Lions to draft Jevon Holland, this is the range that I think Joseph Ossai will be taken. It would be a pleasant surprise for the Lions to be able to land him with pick # 72 in the early part of Round 3. Many have Amon-Ra St.Brown being drafted in Round 3. It wouldn't be surprising if he went as high as pick # 71. However, I think the Lions can get more out of that draft resource. Marvin Wilson at # 101 ( it's listed as # 102 in the article ) would seem like a good value pick. I think the most likely landing point for Wilson is the upper part of Round 3. He has plenty of upside potential.

Daniel Jeremiah 2021 NFL mock draft 4.0: Broncos, Patriots trade up for QBs
Pick 7 Denver Broncos
(via Lions) TRADE
Justin Fields Ohio State · QB There are a lot of rumblings about the Broncos' interest in Fields, even after the trade to acquire Teddy Bridgewater. It would make sense for them to position themselves ahead of the Panthers to make sure they get him.
Pick 9 Detroit Lions (via Broncos) TRADE Rashawn Slater Northwestern · OT The Lions trade down and still land my top-rated offensive lineman in the draft. Slater can step in at right tackle and help protect Jared Goff. .........
Under this scenario, if the Lions stay at pick # 9, I would be comfortable with Rashawn Slater. It would be a close call between Slater and WR Jaylen Waddle in terms of who I would prefer the Lions to draft.
