Offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell will serve as Lions interim coach for final five games

Lions fire GM Bob Quinn and HC Matt Patricia

My guess is Sheila Ford Hamp chose Darrell Bevell to be the Lions Interim Head Coach because he's the most experienced Coordinator the Lions had on the staff. I'm comfortable with the decision, though ideally would have preferred Special Teams Coordinator Brayden Coombs as for the Interim HC position. Coombs has done a very good job in his 1st season as Lions Special Teams Coordinator and has been praised for his coaching / leadership.
The only realistic chance for Darrell Bevell to become the Lions HC for the 2021 season is the unrealistic outcome of the Lions winning the final 5 games this season. Even then, the next Lions GM will probably want to hire his own HC. Bevell would likely need the Lions new GM having a background with him.

Darrell Bevell, well-liked by players, chosen as Lions’ interim head coach

Texans 41, Lions 25: Game # 11 ( 2020 )
detroit-lions-forum.proboards.com/thread/825/texans-41-lions-game-2020
The strategy of running the ball to begin the 3rd QTR vs. the Texans made a great amount of sense. The Lions needed to keep DeShaun Watson and co. off the field and the Lions didn't have the firepower on Offense to move the ball by air, consistently. Or even close to that.
In addition to how the Lions Offense performs in the final 5 games under Darrell Bevell, how the Defense performs with Matt Patricia out of the picture could go along way in whether Bevell gets a non-interim NFL HC opportunity.

My take is that the players cannot afford to play soft, their performance will be closely scrutinized. Usually, with a new HC, players have to bring their A game to (re-)win their starter spot.

Agreed.
Related to what you mentioned, the game tapes will be available for the other 31 NFL organizations to view. With the likelihood of a large numbers of Lions current players becoming free agents in one way or another in 2021, players need to make favorable impressions around the league.

The Bears, the Lions next opponent, also could have a HC change. I think they are currently the 4th most likely team to have a HC change, only behind the Jaguars, Jets, and Chargers.

I've read somewhere that there was a bit of a (verbal) fight between Nick Foles and Nagy concerning playcalling / scheme ? I've watched Chicago - Green Bay this week and Trubisky didn't appear very confident ... accuracy problems to say the least On the other side, there was Aaron Rodgers and he was so poised and so in control of the game, I was really impressed.

I haven't come across any info yet regarding a disagreement or worse with Nick Foles and Matt Nagy. It's something I plan on doing an Internet search on leading up to the Lions-Bears game in Chicago.
So far I have watched the Bears-Packers game through around 1:10 remaining in the 3rd QTR, right after Jamaal Williams impressive TD run that made the score Packers 41, Bears 10 ( following the PAT ).
Same here regarding being very impressed with Aaron Rodgers. He was playing at a level that not many QBs ever played, even on their best day.
Granted, Mitchell Trubisky made some bad decisions in this game that were costly to the Bears. Darnell Savage's 2nd interception was a ball thrown with 3 defenders ending up close to the ball.
Having said this, I thought Trubisky made some throws that Nick Foles would struggle to make. Some of the Bears receivers slipped on patterns, causing incompletions. Cole Kmet not holding on to the ball at the Packers 1 yard line early in the game likely cost the Bears a TD. The officials missed two Face Mask pulls on Trubisky, including one that likely caused him to fumble. Preston Smith ended up returning the fumble for a TD.

Darrell Bevell has made the Detroit Lions fun again

Great job by Darrell Bevell in setting the stage for the Lions comeback win over the Bears and finally beating the Bears ( or any NFC North opponent ).
At least 3 things are apparent:
1. Matt Patricia failed as Lions HC.
2. The Lions players responded favorably to Darrell Bevell in his first game as Lions HC.
3. The Lions need to cut down on concentration penalties and tackle much better. Against a more complete team than the Bears are, I don't think the Lions will be able to overcome as many mistakes.

People are usually overreacting, especially on social media. There's a lot of "know-it-all" out there. To his credit, Bevell sets the record straight and shows how compassionate he can be.
