The release of Desmond Trufant didn't become official until this afternoon. It didn't take long for the Lions to come to an agreement with Trufant for a 2 year contract.

Considering the high contract numbers for CBs on the open market, the contract that the Lions agreed to with Desmond Trufant is favorable for the Lions. I'm pleasantly surprised the Lions were able to land Trufant for these numbers.

Desmond Trufant turns 30 in September. He's under 4 months older than Darius Slay.

Unlike what I thought earlier this evening before the Lions reached a contract agreement with Trufant, I now believe Darius Slay will be traded before the draft. It wouldn't even surprise me if Slay is traded in the next 24 hours. Slay is publicly saying he wants to be traded. Being that Slay is a good natured person, who likes fun, I'm not sure if he's serious about wanting a trade ASAP.

Taking Darius Slay's situation out of the equation, my only concern about the Lions agreeing to a contract with Desmond Trufant is he's coming off a season ending broken forearm injury. The Lions can't bring him in for a medical examination in this time frame because of the Coronavirus situation.

I'm anticipating that the Lions will rework Desmond Trufant's contract in the winter of 2021 if the decision is made for Trufant to remain with the team for at least the 2021 season.

Desmond Trufant focused on hitting next level with Lions, not replacing CB Darius Slay

As long as Desmond Trufant is relatively healthy, he should be an asset on the field for the Lions. The 4 interception season Trufant is coming off of, even with only playing in 9 games, reminds me of Darius Slay having 8 interceptions in the 2017 season after not having more than 2 interceptions in any previous season. Trufant's previous high was 3 interceptions ( in 16 games ) in 2014. That was his 2nd season in the NFL.
