Does newly released CB Josh Norman make sense for Detroit Lions in free agency?
………….
It would be a huge mistake if the Lions signed Josh Norman, with the expectation that he can be a winning caliber starter in the Lions Defensive system the Lions used the last 2 seasons.
Even beyond this, I have major doubts about Josh Norman as a good fit in the Lions locker room. I hope the Lions go in another direction.

Jets inform Trumaine Johnson he’ll be released
………………
Trumaine Johnson's best game with the Jets easily could have been his first one, the MNF game in Detroit that was an epic football disaster for the Lions.
Between Trumaine Johnson turning 30 this past January and his overall play with the Jets nowhere near they anticipated when signing him to a lucrative UFA contract in 2018 ( the money might have made taken away much of this urgency / desire ), he's not someone the Lions can count on. If the Lions sign Johnson, it needs to be a highly favorable contract for the team.

Dolphins will release Reshad Jones
…………
Reshad Jones appeared in 2 Pro Bowls in his 10 seasons with the Dolphins. He was one of the best all around Safeties in the NFL. Likely because of the combination of injuries, age ( he turned 32 in February ), and contract, the Dolphins decided to move on. This despite the Dolphins having an excellent salary cap situation.
The Lions should consider bringing in Reshad Jones for a workout and medical exam. At much more team friendly contract terms, he might be worth signing.

Detroit Lions need help at cornerback — with or without Darius Slay
…………………..
In one form or another, the Lions need at least one viable starting CB option.
Along with the Defensive Line ( most likely DT-Interior ), the Secondary is the most likely unit the Lions will make a lucrative UFA signing this year. With Safety a realistic possibility to fit this bill.
I'm surprised and disappointed the Lions don't value Tavon Wilson as much as appears to be the case. Wilson's versatility by itself adds noticeably to his value.
The major concern with Ronald Darby is his injury history.
Any Defensive Back from the Eagles would seem to be in play.
Bradley Roby is a playmaker who doesn't seem consistent as a CB.
The Safeties mentioned in the article other than Eric Berry all could realistically appeal to the Lions, based on price.

Vikings are releasing Xavier Rhodes
……………
No surprise at all. In addition to the physical skills of Xavier Rhodes appearing to decline substantially, he was at times not on the same page as other Vikings Defensive players. With arguments on the sideline involving Rhodes occurring as well.
Even with CB being a need for the Lions, I don't anticipate the Lions will have serious interest in Rhodes. Even factoring in that if he's offered a contract by one or more teams, it very likely will be for MUCH less than what he has been making.

Report: Texans agree to terms with Bradley Roby
……………..
This is a better contract than I would have been comfortable with the Lions giving Bradley Roby.
Darius Slay likely is happy to see the basic terms of Roby's new contract with with Texans.

Bengals agree to terms on three-year, $42 million deal with Trae Waynes
…………………
Even though Trae Waynes didn't meet the expectations the Vikings had for him as pick # 11 in the 2015 Draft, it was likely that he would get a contract that the Vikings felt would be too much for them to retain him. The market conditions for CBs likely raised the value of Wayne's contract he agreed to with the Bengals that much more. It's best that the Lions didn't end up with Waynes, based on the preliminary contract numbers mentioned in the article.
With Xavier Rhodes being released a few days ago, both of the Vikings starting CBs over the last few years ago now gone.

Rodney McLeod re-signs with Eagles
………………….
My guess is the Lions had interest in Rodney McLeod. To what extent is probably the a more pertinent question.
McLeod didn't have his usual type of season in 2019, as he was coming off a major knee injury from the previous season. McLeod's past track record, coupled with the Eagles moving on from Malcolm Jenkins, likely were both factors in the Eagles decision to make a good offer to him.

Eagles won’t exercise option on Malcolm Jenkins’ contract
………………..
I'm expecting Malcolm Jenkins' services to be in high demand even though he turns 33 later this year. If the Lions have serious interest in Jenkins, the Lions probably will be one of the favorites to land him because of the Cory Undlin connection.

Jets re-sign Brian Poole
………….
Brian Poole is one of the better Nickel CBs in the NFL. The contract makes sense for both Poole and the Jets.

Saints bringing back Malcolm Jenkins
……………
When the dust settles, my guess is the Lions trade with the Patriots for S Duron Harmon will be a more efficient decision than the likely cost of signing Malcolm Jenkins.
Having said that, Jenkins could easily be a difference maker in the Saints getting over the top after 3 straight brutal playoff exits.
