The Lions releasing Rick Wagner isn't surprising, given his level of play in his 3 seasons with the team, coupled with his contract. It's realistically possible the Lions attempted to restructure Wagner's contract downward, which would have better reflected his value. Wagner was clearly overpriced, even when factoring in the expected increase of the NFL Salary Cap to at least $ 200 million in 2019.
