NFL draft: Is third overall too early for Detroit Lions to pick DT Derrick Brown?
…………………….
If Chase Young is off the board at pick # 3, ideally the Lions will get a good trade offer from Miami ( pick # 5 ) or the LA Chargers ( pick # 6 ).
If the Lions don't get a trade offer that makes sense to trade down, the decision I hope the Lions make is to take the player of the three ( CB Jeff Okudah, LB Isaiah Simmons, DT Derrick Brown ) who is the highest rated player on the Lions Draft Board. A solid case can be made for any of the 3 players as the best selection under this scenario.

Lions GM open to trading down, but not too far
………………
It would be a huge mistake for the Lions not to take calls when the Lions are on the clock with pick # 3.
Being that the decision on which player to draft if the Lions stay at # 3 should be made before the start of the draft ( it's much easier to do this when pick at # 3 than further down ), the information should be ready to be sent to the NFL ahead of time if no trade is made.
During the time the Lions are on the clock, that's when Miami or the LA Chargers might become desperate to trade up for a specific QB.

Dave Gettleman says Giants will “seriously entertain” trading down
……….
One concern in particular regarding the potential of the Lions being able to trade down with the Dolphins or LA Chargers at a price that makes sense for the Lions is both the Dolphins and Chargers might decide to wait until the Giants are on the clock before putting their best offer on the table. Especially, since the cost of going from # 5 or # 6 is normally less to go to # 4 than it is to go to # 3.

Washington getting calls about second overall pick
……………….
I'm not anticipating the Redskins trading down from pick # 2 . Having said that, it remains a possibility ( 25 % chance feels like the high end number. ).
If this was a more normal off-season, the chances of the Redskins trading down would have likely been noticeably higher.

Biggest mistake Detroit Lions could make in NFL draft is Tua Tagovailoa: #NeverTua
……………..
If the Lions keep pick # 3, any outcome other than Chase Young, Jeff Okudah, Isaiah Simmons, or Derrick Brown would be a highly questionable at best decision.
In Round 2 and in the remainder of the draft, so much should depend on what the Lions did in Round 1 and the value on the team's draft board in the remaining spots in the draft.

Report: Dolphins eyeing possible move to third spot to take a tackle
…………..
Unless the Dolphins believe the Giants or another team, at pick # 4, is going to draft the Offensive Tackle they rate ( under this scenario ) well above the rest of the Offensive Tackles in the draft, then it doesn't pay for them to trade up. This scenario is one I'm not counting on from a Lions standpoint in trying to trade down to pick # 5 or # 6.

Report: Dolphins trying to get to third pick without giving up fifth
……………….
A trade that would give the Lions pick # 18, # 26, and # 39 for pick # 3 is tempting. However, I would probably not make the trade unless the Dolphins are willing to also put pick # 70 ( early 3rd Round in the trade. With the Lions giving Miami a 6th Round pick, if necessary.). If the Lions make a trade along the Lions of # 18, # 26, and # 39 for pick # 3, the Lions will probably need to trade up at least once in Round 1 in order to secure a higher rated player. Hence, the need of getting the equivalent of at least a mid 3rd Round pick put into the trade.

Dave Birkett's final 2020 NFL mock draft: What will Lions do?
……………..
Travis Frederick was drafted with pick # 31 in the 2013 Draft. That's near the spot of the 2020 Draft that I believe Cesar Ruiz will be drafted. Not at or near pick # 17. It didn't surprise me that Travis Frederick went as high as pick # 31. It would surprise me if Cesar Ruiz is taken at # 17.
I'm surprised that at least two Lions beat writers are projecting Zack Baun to be selected at pick # 29 or higher.

PFT’s one, and only, 2020 mock draft
……………….
I'm not close to being convinced that Tua Tagovailoa will drop to pick # 18. If the Dolphins pass on a QB at # 5 and Tua Tagovailoa doesn't get taken in the next two or more picks to follow, another team ( Patriots come to mind ) could very realistically trade up for Tua.
Raekwon Davis as high as # 25 would surprise me. I think Davis will end up being drafted in Round 2.
I don't think Xavier McKinney will end up with the Packers because their starting Safeties are a team strength. The Packers can get better value at # 30, based on their situation.
