Lions open as near-touchdown favorite over Buccaneers
..........
Despite the Lions needing OT to defeat the LA Rams with the Rams Offensive Line being depleted for the 2nd half, and the Bucs defeating Washington by a wide margin, the Bucs injury situation might be a factor in the Lions being favorite over the Bucs by as much as 6 1/2 points.

Baker Mayfield sees Lions game as measuring stick for Buccaneers ............
This thread relates to the following thread:
Lions vs. Bucs Injury info: Game # 2 ( 2024 )
detroit-lions-forum.proboards.com/thread/2253/lions-bucs-injury-info-game
Baker Mayfield's comments help illustrate how far the Lions have come since the middle of the 2024 season.
Even though the Lions beat the Bucs in Tampa last October, then beat them again in 2nd Round of the playoffs in Detroit, the Bucs are a dangerous team. They are playing with confidence and did a good job overcoming injuries to handily beat Washington in their season opener. Baker Mayfield turned his NFL playing career around late in the 2022 season when he played for Sean McVay with the LA Rams. He's matured greatly since his days with the Browns.

Week 2 features a matchup between two of the youngest teams in the NFL
.........
Bucs GM Jason Licht has done a very good job transitioning from Tom Brady and an overall Bucs roster that was built to win for 3 seasons. The Bucs cleared a huge amount of salary cap space in 2023, yet they were still able to win the NFC South with a 9-8 record and a 1st Round playoff game over the Eagles. The Bucs gave the Lions a battle in the 2nd Round, before Derrick Barnes secured a Lions victory with an interception with 1:33 remaining in the 4th QTR.

PFT’s Week 2 2024 NFL picks, Florio vs. Simms
Buccaneers at Lions (-7.5)
If the Bucs are, as I believe, a potentially great team this year, this is a game they should win.
Florio: Buccaneers, 23-20.
Simms: Lions, 34-24.
........
The Bucs are certainly capable of winning this game. But saying that the Bucs should win, despite being on the road in what's expected to be a loud crowd in Detroit, against a Lions team that on paper is improved from the Lions team that reached the NFC Championship Game last season, is quite a statement that doesn't make sense. Even more so with the Bucs injury situation.

Lions elevate two wide receivers for Week 2 showdown with Buccaneers
.........
A positive is this news seems to bode well regarding the Lions expectations for Kerby Joseph to play vs. the Bucs tomorrow.
On the other hand, this news could mean the Lions are concerned that Jameson Williams might be limited in the game, assuming he's cleared to play.

Three players to watch in the Lions vs Bucs game in Week 2
......
Considering the missed time for Terrion Arnold in training camp and that he was sidelined for the final 2 pre-season games, he played decently against the LA Rams. With that game now under Arnold's belt and another full week of practice, I'm cautiously optimistic Arnold will makes strides vs. the Bucs. Having said that, Mike Evans and Chris Godwin are high quality WRs that probably will have their moments against the Lions CBs they are matched up against tomorrow.

Behind Enemy Lines: Breaking down Detroit's matchup against Tampa Bay with Buccaneers Wire
...........
I'm not sure if the Lions plan will be to often match up Aidan Hutchinson against Justin Skule, who's expected to start in place of Luke Goedeke at RT for the Bucs. The Bucs likely would use an additional blocker to help Skule against Hutch. It probably would be better for the Lions to match Hutch up against LT Tristan Wirfs, as it's more likely the Bucs would attempt to have Skuke block the Lions edge rusher opposite Hutch, one on one.

Behind Enemy Lines: Q&A with Lions Wire ahead of Week 2
...........
While I believe the Lions will keep the Bucs running game in check, I'm concerned about the Lions generating enough of a pass rush as a result of Marcus Davenport very likely being out of this game. With a Lions Secondary that has only played one game together, this is a potentially dangerous situation against Baker Mayfield and his WRs.

Detroit Lions vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Scouting report, prediction for playoff rematch
.........
NB-S Christian Izien did a good job, relatively speaking, when matched up against Amon-Ra. St. Brown. Including, against the run, in the regular season game in Tampa last October. I'm not sure how much Izien is going to be used as a Slot CB in this game, with the Bucs needing to replace Antoine Winfield Jr. at Safety today. Izien made the Bucs opening day roster last season as an UDRFA from Rutgers.

Lions inactives for Week 2 vs. Buccaneers
.........
I'm surprised that Ennis Rakestraw Jr. and even more so Colby Sorsdal are inactive.
Rakestraw likely got caught in a numbers game.
Because Penei Sewell is dealing with an ankle injury that kept him out of practice Wednesday and Thursday, and he was limited in practice on Friday, I thought the Lions would go with additional insurance at Tackle. Dan Skipper is the Lions only backup at Tackle for this game, who's not in essence an emergency backup at Tackle.
