I strongly believe this was the right decision by Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell.
The surprising play of Jake Fromm in the Lions pre-season finale vs. the Steelers gave the Lions additional leverage, in case Sudfeld elects not to sign a practice squad contract with the Lions.
Even if the Lions end up re-signing Sudfeld to the 53 man roster in the next couple of weeks, freeing up the roster spot in the Lions initial 53 man roster is a significant benefit.
