Lions draft prospect of the day: Tip Reiman, TE, Illinois

Lions match the 49ers offer sheet for RFA TE Brock Wright

With the Lions matching the RFA Offer Sheet the 49ers signed Brock Wright to, the Lions have the luxury of staying pat at TE going into the draft and into the regular season, barring the injury factor. For the Lions to draft a TE, he clearly needs to have a significantly higher draft grade on the Lions Draft Board than players at positions of greater needs.
While Tip Reiman could realistically be drafted as early as Round 4, the earliest that I believe the Lions should even consider selecting him is with Pick # 164 in Round 5. Reiman's ceiling as an NFL player probably is a # 2 TE, who offers more as a blocker than as a receiver. I think Round 5 is the likely landing spot for Reiman. With the early part of Round 6 the next most likely landing spot for him. Reiman's blocking skills and further upside, coupled with his excellent football character, are the main reasons why he probably will be a good option with Pick # 164 in Round 5.

Lions 2024 draft preview: Tight end not obvious need, but Day 3 could offer help
............
Considering Ben Sinnott wasn't used much on Special Teams and that he probably will be drafted in Round 3 or 4, I would be very surprised if the Lions are the team that drafts him.
Because Tip Reiman and AJ Barner have been used extensively on Special Teams and probably will last longer in the draft than Sinnott, one of them has a better chance than Sinnott to be drafted by the Lions. Most likely, the Lions won't end up drafting a TE in the 2024 Draft. Barner is the better receiving prospect, compared to Reiman. The latter is the better blocking prospect. [/font]
